Dumol produces top-drawer wines in both Sonoma and Napa Valleys although the winery is in Sonoma. They own vineyards and source fruit from some of the most desirable sites in northern California, the bulk of which is located in the Green Valley AVA. A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with lots of red fruit and berries along with sweet herbs and a touch of spice. Great length with fine tannins and bright acidity. You can drink it now but it will continue to improve for another decade or so.

Stephen Hansel has this to say about Cahill Lane's Pinot Noir: "A blend of 3 clones, clone 114, clone 115, and the Rochioli Pommard clone, are grown each on its own one acre site. The vines were planted in 1989 and are in their peak, quality wise. The Rochioli pommard and the clone 115 contribute red berry and cherry flavors and the clone 114 adds a dimension of herbal flavors giving Cahill Lane an Old world character."

In the 1970s Walter Hansel enlisted the help of his son Stephen to plant 257 Chardonnay vines. Throughout the 1980's the winery grew, as did the quality of the wine. It's still a relatively small winery but their Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are now highly regarded and offer a Burgundian esthetic in a Sonoma setting. The Estate Chardonnay from Walter Hansel is one of the best showcases of what this winery can do with the grape. It avoids extreme oak and over-the-top flavour in exchange for balance, elegance and food-friendly compatibility.

While the Estate Pinot Noir from Walter Hansel utilizes barrels of Pinot from a variety of Hansel-owned vineyards, the heart and soul (and a majority of the Pinot) is usually harvested by hand from the legendary Meadows vineyard. The result is a Pinot Noir that is very approachable yet complex even when young but can also reward you if cellared.

DuMOL winemaker and partner Andy Smith says this about the Highland Divide Chardonnay "... this is not just a mixing of vineyards and barrels; there’s great equilibrium in this special assembly." The Highland Divide is the result of sourcing grapes from some of DuMOL's own estate vineyards and partner vineyards at higher elevations within the Russian River Valley. Barrel fermenting and aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and new and used French Oak, lending this Chardonnay both power and subtle complexity.
