Producer Description
"Fino, Spanish for 'Fine', is the driest and palest of all varieties of traditional sherry wine. Traditional Fino wine is usually dry and is best consumed shortly after the bottle is opened in order to avoid losing its flavour. Kavalan's Fino, matured in the finest Fino Sherry butts, however, provides mild sweetness that excites the palate."

Evan’s Tasting Note
Nose: For a dram that is likely well under 10 years old, there are plenty of old leather and tobacco notes wafting around in here. Also pistachio nuts, granny smith apple slices, shredded coconut with a squeeze of lime, along with rhubarb and tart strawberries, or strawberry tarts – you pick.
Palate: A tightly wound wine and wood spice hit up front, along with fruit leather, more green apple, peppermint tea, lemon and honey cough drops, Dutch licorice, and ginger beer.
Finish: Concentrated fruit and spice notes all the way down. Slightly drying.
Comment: This whisky is so tightly packed with aroma and flavour that it all seems to fight for attention at once. It is a fun ride, but it might be a bit exhausting to have multiple drams of it in one sitting. Take your time with it and it will reward you.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: The rich aroma of sherry, with its creamy toffee and rich fudge qualities and the slightest hint of chocolate, blends with the fruity character of the spirit. The fruitiness is a complex, multi-layered blend of mango and over-ripe citrus fruit flavours that ends with a touch of green apples.
Palate: Natural sweetness on the tongue is accentuated with a gentle fudge flavour. The complex fruity flavours are layered with dry smoked wood aromas. Solist Fino cask strength whisky has a long finish and natural sweetness giving way to a pleasant mouth-drying sensation that leaves the connoisseur ready for the next sip!

To commemorate the Kavalan distillery's 15th Anniversary, the distillery has released a 2009 vintage, Oloroso Sherry Cask, bottled at 15 years of age. 57.1%

The word that India can make world-class single malt whisky has made its way to Canada and the rest of the world over the past 20 years. Amrut led the way, making headlines for its tremendous quality. Next came Paul John, with its rich, barley-driven style. Joining those two well-regarded whiskies is Rampur.
The Rampur Asava Indian Single Malt Whisky is matured in ex-Bourbon Barrels, then finished in casks that previously held Indian wine made the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. The result is bottled at 45% ABV.

If you're looking to see what the DNA of this distillery really is, this is the best place to start. Everything else in the range is icing on the cake. This expression almost always has a staff pick sticker on it, as our entire team is smitten with Kavalan.
