Producer Description
"When tasting this version distilled in 2007 for the first time, one thing is clear: sherry finishing could not be better suited to this iconic Lowland single malt. Even better, its very nuanced and wonderfully fruity palette of flavours and aromas is enriched with generous and spicy notes as well as stunning autumn shades that further bring out its deeply malty character."
700ml mlProducer Tasting Note
Nose: fine, unctuous. Revealing a very nice fruity rancio (apricot, orange, tangerine), slightly burnt and waxy, the first nose develops into intense notes of black fruits (blackberry, blueberry, blackcurrant, cherry). Allowed to breathe, the underlying malted barley fills the background of the aromatic palette. Gradually, superb notes of toffee, pastry (Paris-Brest) and dried fruit (fig, date) take center stage.
Palate: both lively and balanced. A perfect synthesis of the aromatic palette, the attack on the palate is marked by notes of apricot, salted butter caramel, crushed malted barley and precious wood. On the mid-palate, flavors of prune, toasted walnuts, dark chocolate, licorice and dried leaves diffuse autumnal tones with the most beautiful effect. This is accentuated a little more by an aftertaste made up of new dried fruits (chestnuts, chestnuts).
Overall: long, soft. Gourmet, the start of the finish invites us to savor a delicious chocolate fondant. Then, sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) ensure a slender and powdery transition towards a finish marked by woody notes of a beautiful essence (chestnut, oak, walnut). The retro-nasal olfaction evokes a walnut cake and the empty glass releases aromas of apricot and bitter orange.
