This independant bottled rum is brought to us by bottling newcomer Bira! by 77 spirits. Founder and friend of the store Karl Mudzamba selects the rums with his wife, and releases them to a only a couple of thirsty provinces.
This is from South African distillery Mhoba and is matured in ex bourbon barrels. They make non-agricole cane juice rums of several marks including long fermentations and the use of dunder(dunder is not used in this expression).

Shawn's Tasting Note
Nose: Dried chili and sharpie with juicy pineapple creeping up. Slightly herbal with just a hint of grass and maybe even smoke? The overall feel is a little industrial in just the way I like.
Palate: Slight sweetness with generous notes of moist raisins and dried papaya. Licorice all-sorts (the ones with sprinkles on), chilli oil, and a decent layer of creamy oak. Notes of bourbon and char round out the finish, and the vegetal tones come back retro-nasaly.
Comment: A really fun bottle that will please even a novice to the world of high(ish) ester rums.
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Tropical fruit, mint, charred driftwood.
Palate: Funky, oaky, and robust. It’s really unlike any other cane juice rum.
There’s grilled pineapple, overripe banana, furniture polish, old leather, and maybe a couple of lemon drops. Lingering oak finish. This is a first class flight to South Africa, via Jamaica and Guadeloupe. - Robert T. Salmon
