Evan’s Tasting Note
Nose: Pine resin, milk chocolate, honey on toasted rye bread, Earl Grey tea, vanilla-scented candles, and Kellog's Frosted Mini-Wheats cereal.
Palate: Soft and honeyed, oatmeal with brown sugar, salted Marcona almonds, chamomile tea and plateful shortbread cookies and gingerbread cookies on the side,
Finish: Smooth and warming with lingering salty almond and honey notes.
Comment: A very solid first release from a distillery worth keeping an eye on.

STR casks (shaved, toasted, recharred) have been a godsend for the whisky world. The concept has helped restore faith in the institution of wine cask maturation. Those of us with a bit of reticence when it comes to malts matured in casks that once held that grapey goodness have found STRing to be the panacea to all of those sour, funky, fermenty whiskies of the past.
This is the second edition of this core Lindores Abbey expression that was matured in former red wine barriques. Rather dessertish. One dram isn't quite enough. Nor is two.

Part of the new core range from Balblair Distillery, which focuses on age statements rather than vintages. Bottled at 46% after maturing in ex-Bourbon and finishing in First Fill ex-Sherry Seasoned Spanish Oak Butts. Bottled at 46%, unchill filtered with no colouring added.

Tullibardine has three wood finishes, each of them starts with the Sovereign as a base and then uses a wine cask for finishing. For about 12 months, Tullibardine Sovereign has been finished off in Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Casks, which are 225 litres in size. The resulting whisky is bottled at 43%.
