Joan Miquel Canals is a winemaker who began his education at the University of Barcelona before receiving a PhD in 1997 from the Rovira i Virgili University, where he is a full professor at the Faculty of Oenology. He is a member and former president of the College of Oenologists and Oenologists of Catalonia, and an expert in the quality factors that influence the sensory perception of wines, particularly sparkling wines. Since 1983, he has produced base wines from the traditional varieties for cava in the Alt Penedès region.
He has been the winemaker for his family's cavas from the beginning, where he has developed the current product line in the framework of a philosophy of constant improvement with respect for nature and trying to minimize the human footprint in his wines. The Brut Nature is a blend of 45% Macabeu, 40% Xarel·lo, and 15% Parellada. It's a clear, brilliant pale gold colour with aromas of ripe fruits (baked apple, quince, peach syrup, backed by fine pastry and vanilla notes. Flavours of ripe green and stone fruits (apple and peach), and hazelnut follow; it's voluminous with good balance. There's a creamy mousse along with a fine, persistent finish.

Benvolio Prosecco is an excellent expression of both the variety and the terroir. This wine is a sharp golden straw color with bubbles that are finely textured and persistent. Sisters Antonella and Ersiliana Bronca have steered their estate along the path of quality since taking over the reins from their father, Livio. Joined by Antonella’s husband, Pietro, a winemaker, and Ersiliana’s daughter Elisa, who a degree in enology, this family team works hard in the vineyard and in the cellar to produce the purest Prosecco out there.
The wines are classified as a Prosecco Colli Conegliano DOCG, the region having achieved DOCG status as of April 2010. In addition, many of their steep, hillside vineyards lie within the borders of the prized Valdobbiadene region, part of the larger UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Sorelle Bronca vineyards are higher in average age than most of the surrounding wineries, where younger, high-production vineyards are prized. Vineyard work and harvest are done by hand for every wine in the range. Modi is a 100% Glera Prosecco from San Pietro di Feletto, at 150-250 meters in elevation. Here, the slopes are very steep, at 60% in grade. The L’Ovest is from the Valdobbiadene DOCG, from three vineyards (Lavina rossa, Scanolera, and Rive) in the western section of the appellation, in the towns of Col San Martino, Colbertaldo, and Farrò. Work in the winery’s 20 hectares of vineyards is impeccable, and they work as naturally as possible, without the use of chemicals.

True Colours is a Cava which was originally created to support LGBTQ+ programs in Scandinavia. It is imported into Alberta by Redback Wine Imports, who has committed to donating $10 from every case sold to two great local programs: Calgary Pride and HIV Community Link.
Like most Cava, this sparkling wine is produced in Penedes, within the Catalonia region of Spain.

True Colours was initially created for the Swedish market by Altia Sweden, in conjunction with the Cava producer Sumarrocca. It's a high-quality sparkling wine made in the metodo tradicional style (much like Champagne) from Xarello, Parellada and Macabeo, along with a small amount of Chardonnay. The palate shows a core of stone fruits, citrus and minerals with a toasty brioche finish.
