The new Mortlach 20 Year is part of a trio of new releases put out in 2018. Matured exclusively in Ex-Sherry and bottle at 4.34%. The whisky is very well priced compared to the 25 year from the old range... even the 18 Year ($340)!
Producer Description: "A selection of our very best Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been matured for a minimum of 20 years to tame “The Beast of Dufftown” into smooth submission and mellow complexity. It is a whisky that would have made the great Alexander Cowie proud."
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Dense, elegant & intriguing. Dried fruit, cedar wood, leather and tobacco.
Palate: Robust palate with a coating of oiliness. Aromatic citrus. Hints of wood spice opening into a dark, meatiness of barbecue pork crackling. Berries, jam & cocoa nibs add brightness
Finish: Deep and complex, with gingerbread, raisin and a hint of liquorice.

"Oh and looks like they have improved their closures mucho. Adios crumbling corks, let’s just hope there’s no bisphenol or phthalates in these new ones. Yeah right. Colour: gold. Funny that the 16 was a little darker. Nose: this one’s even earthier, but in a way, there was more happening in the 16. This 20 is rather more on fern, moss, old fabric, old wood… Don’t get me wrong, it’s lovely, but the 16 was much brighter, and more entertaining. Mouth: no, there, now we’re speaking. Mint, oranges, heather honey, triple-sec, quince jelly, damson liqueur, sloe, rosehip tea…. That one very vivid I have to say. Love rosehip. Finish: medium, honeyed and very remotely smoky. Some eucalyptus honey in the aftertaste. Comments: extremely good, it’s just that I have a weakness for the new 16. Anyway, great work on Mortlach, fast and smart. And genuine."

One of the trio of whiskies in the newly revamped Mortlach range. Nicknamed the Wee Witchie in honour of the distillery's smallest still. The 12 year old was matured in Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry and was crafted to showcase the distillery's meaty-sulphury character. 43.4%.

This 16 year old Mortlach was inspired by the distillery's long lost, but beloved, "Flora & Fauna" bottling from the 90's & 2000s. Part of the newly revamped Mortlach range released in 2018 after the disasterous prior range. Matured exclusively in ex-sherry and bottled at 43.4%.
Producer Description: "This single malt Scotch Whisky is inspired by the iconic and rewarding first bottling of the 16 year old released in 1992. It has been matured in only Sherry casks to impart rich, fruity and fragrant notes atop the beasty complexity synonymous with Mortlach."
