This 16 year old Mortlach was inspired by the distillery's long lost, but beloved, "Flora & Fauna" bottling from the 90's & 2000s. Part of the newly revamped Mortlach range released in 2018 after the disasterous prior range. Matured exclusively in ex-sherry and bottled at 43.4%.
Producer Description: "This single malt Scotch Whisky is inspired by the iconic and rewarding first bottling of the 16 year old released in 1992. It has been matured in only Sherry casks to impart rich, fruity and fragrant notes atop the beasty complexity synonymous with Mortlach."
750 mlProducer's Tasting Note
Nose: Bold and complex. Stewed black orchard fruits with earthiness and spice.
Palate: Robust and full – palate coating texture. Light, leathery spiciness, notes of apricot and honey. Sweet and savoury, with a dark, full, and rounded intensity.
Finish: Long and complex, with a surprising sweetening at the finish.

"Everyone seemed to like the 16 Flora and Fauna, but it’s never been a favourite at WF Towers. One has to distinguish himself, I suppose. Colour: deep gold. Nose: I dig this, there’s earth, moss, pine needles, mushrooms, Cuban cigars, old rum agricole, chocolate, heather honey (calluna), mint, chestnuts… I say hurray, but let's not get ahead of ourselves… Mouth: exactly yes! Pure orangey Mortlachness, with perfect honeys (several), corn syrup, maple syrup, drops of bitters, gingerbread, stout (I remember Mackeson’s back in the 1970s, but I haven’t tried them since… ach, around 1980) and quite a lot of moderately sweet orange liqueur. Splendid. Finish: rather long, wonderful, orange-y and perfectly honeyed, with a perfect texture until the end of the aftertaste. Comments: to whom this may concern, very well done, Mortlach is back!
