One of the highlights of my 2014 Kentucky Bourbon tour, this Woodford is a Scotch drinker's Bourbon. After maturing in new American oak the whisky is reduced back down to 55% and then put in a finishin cask for up to a year. It is then bottled at 45.2%.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Aroma: Rich notes of dark fruit, caramel, sharp honey, chocolate, marzipan and toasted oak.
Taste: A full-bodied mix of vanilla, dark caramel, hazelnut, apple, fruit and spices.
Finish: Long and creamy with lingering hints of honeyed apple.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was introduced to the world in February of 2012. The Double Oaked is given a secondary maturation in deeply toasted/lightly charred Virgin Oak barrels for less than a year. Bottled at 45.2% ABV

Woodford Reserve is made from a combination of the triple distilled Bourbon made at Woodford blended with Shively/Louisville's Brown-Forman Distillery plant which uses a column still. This means there is likely some shared DNA between this and the Old Forester Bourbon - even beyond both whisky brands being owned by the same family company. 45.2%
