This Crown Royal release is a blend, 95% of which is rye grain distilled at the company's distillery in Gimli, Manitoba. When reviewed upon its first release in 2015 it was given a respectable 91 points by Whisky Advocate. Also, some guy in a Panama Hat dubbed it the World Whisky of the Year back in 2016. Regardless of what we think of him, the Crown Royal Northern Harvest is a solid Canadian Whisky and worth a try if you are a Crown Royal or Canadian Whisky fan! 45% ABV.

Nose: Baking spices, apple pie, vague floral notes, old lumber, vanilla, allspice, rye bread, dusty grain and dried dark fruits.
Palate: Saltwater toffee sweetness, Granny Smith apples and orange zest that dips in and out of citrus pith. Hot invigorating spices in a full-bodied vanilla custard. Peppery heat and spicy warmth under that typical rye fruitiness. Oak lingers in the background creating a framework for the broad palate to rest on. So complex, yet tightly woven into one.
Finish: Long lingering spices with Crown Royal’s signature buttery smoothness.
Empty Glass: Gentle beach rose petals, orange liqueur, aged barn boards and hints of grain. Plums and clean oak.

The five year whisky on the front end adds black currant, candied ginger, and sweet baking spices. The six year on the mid palate contributes cinnamon shortbread and toffee. The flagship Whisky from Alberta Distillers, which itself was founded in 1946. Alberta Premium has been a ubiquitous bottle in this province and others since it was first launched back in 1958. Made right here in Calgary, Alberta, this 100% Rye is priced like a bar rail whisky but is also quite a good whisky. It is a good introduction to what Alberta Distillers is capable of. 40%.
