A lovely fresh new organic single malt bottled by Loch Lomond Distillers, and a big move away from their tired old expressions. Lots of honey, malt and toast oak with citrus notes in the background. Who knew they were planning to move in this direction 12 years ago? Kudos!

Definitely an island style with typical smokiness, but with elements of a classic single malt that include a smoothness, roundness and heather-honey accent all its own. Very capable of developing to great ages, the distillery is now making available some older vintages which display considerable depth and richness.

Nose: A big, crisp, dry and very aromatic nose with hints of heather and peat.
Palate: Smooth, soft and lasting flavours of heather-honey sweetness and vanilla followed by deeper citrus-fruit flavours and hints of malted bread.
Finish: Long, lingering, surprisingly intense finish that starts sweetly, then gives way to smoke, peat and malt.

Only 12 miles from Glasgow, and although a Highland by definition, these whiskies are known for a more Lowland style due to the use of unpeated malt. Also unique is the choice of sherry used for cask finishing. Instead of the more common olorosso wood, Glengoyne uses predominately palo cortado, resulting in more nutty flavors. This version has a light nose, and is creamy smooth with notes of vanilla.
