From a prized single vineyard at high elevation, Casasilia (the estate's original name) is the winery’s most structured and age-worthy wine. 100% Sangiovese, aged in large oak casks for 18 months, it shows layered aromas of dark cherry, fennel seed, tobacco leaf, along with Tuscan underbrush. Deep, refined, and savoury Chianti Classico Gran Sezelione, ideal for the cellar, but drinkable now with a good decant. Pair with bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-cooked lamb, or spaghetti with fresh truffles. We received some magnums and 3 -3-litre bottles as well!
750ml mlWine Advocate Tasting Note (2017 Vintage)
91 Points - "An organic (and vegan) wine, the Poggio al Sole 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia comes from a hot and dry vintage. Instead of the darkly concentrated and super ripe fruit you might expect of this vintage, this wine is downplayed and soft instead. It opens to a mid-weight texture with moderate intensity played out as cassis, wild berry and sour plum. The tannins are integrated and the finish is not too short, but not too long either. I suggest a nearish drinking window of about five years with some grilled vegetables."
Wine Advocate Tasting Note (2015 Vintage)
92 Points - "The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Casasilia is a standout wine that delivers elegance and intensity. This vintage paints a generous and cheerful portrait of the Sangiovese grape, and Poggio al Sole has captured that spirit with this bottle. Soft layers of cherry and wild berry segue to crushed stone, grilled herb and blue violets. Only 9,500 bottles were made."
Winery Tasting Note (2017 Vintage)
Broad, deep fruit with enticing hints of bramble, forest floor and havana tobacco. Honed, elegant maturity on the palate and a long finish.
