Producer Description:
The Jura is a 1994 refill hogshead and it is classic, long-aged refill matured Jura, very complex, elegant, waxy, oily, mineral, herbal and coastal. Evocative and beautifully detailed old Island single malt.

Nose: beautifully aromatic and well-structured, like nosing a bond-dry, well-aged Loire chenin blanc. Waxy, mineral, oily like an old tool box, also full of soft coastal elements, sandalwood, gorse flower and dried herbs with a delicate medicinal note.
Palate: rich, mouth-filling and captured at a perfect natural cask strength. Again very focused on these mineral and drying waxy qualities. With grassy olive oil, eucalyptus, white pepper, soft camphor notes and slightly resinous wood extracts.
Finish: long, mentholated, waxy and also still slightly peppery with lingering coastal freshness.

"The Sponge already had a superb 1991+1994 back in 2021 (WF 91), so expectations are rather high for this one. Colour: white wine. Nose: a greasier take, more in line with a fine white wine, with notes of rhubarb, white flowers, metal polish, basalt, paraffin, and grapefruit. In short, it’s an awesomely classic Jura nose, leaning slightly towards the old-school style. Mouth: peppery, earthy, with coal dust, paraffin, that childhood memory of eating modelling clay, a touch of plaster, honeycomb, grapefruit, and a hint of banana. Everything’s just spot on. Finish: very long, with a fantastic bitterness, orange peel, green pepper, tobacco, and aged mead… Comments: I feel like these incredible old Juras fly a bit under the radar, yet they’re absolutely magnificent, offering a deep and complex aromatic experience. I see from some old notes that I’ve compared them to St. Magdalene before. Yes, that’s exactly it (self-congratulation, there’s nothing worse, S.) SGP:462 - 91 points."

However, for this one, we did some well-honed Decadent Drinks cask mixology and muddled together a refill hogshead of 1990 Glen Moray with a 2nd fill sherry hogshead of 1991 Glen Moray. We left that brew to stew inside the sherry hoggie for several months, then bottled the mix at natural cask strength. It’s fruity, opulent, decadent and tastes like the set furniture from 2001 Space Odyssey draped with all the cardigans in rural Englandshire. Please enjoy this whisky while trawling this website and reading every single rear label on every single bottling we ever did. "It’s a potion that Angus cooked up in collaboration with the good folk at Ardnamurchan Distillery. It’s a mix of 1st fill and 2nd fill, peated and unpeated sherry octaves. We mixed them all together and married them in a refill sherry butt for over six months until the whole potion turned 7 years old, then we bottled it with slight reduction at 57.1%. For those of you that deify transparency, here’s the recipe...
