This 1977 vintage Bas Armagnac has been bottled by Decadent Drinks at a natural cask strength of 45.2%. 90pts WhiskyFun
Producer Description
"1977 is an excellent but super rare vintage, thanks to an unusually low harvest that year. All of which makes this wee bottling a total gem and a bit of a no-brainer for us when it came to selecting our latest Armagnac Sponge. A perfect natural strength and bags of concentrated dark fruits, honey and intricate wood spices. Luscious, decadent and something undeniably very special!"
700 ml Low StockProducer Tasting Note
Nose: at once concentrated and full of earthiness and dark fruits, but also possessing a lighter side with a lot of honey and brighter floral aromas. Overall, wonderfully balanced and intricate Armagnac that nods at a Borderies Cognac style in some lights.
Palate: superb balance of power and richness with lighter, deft fruit notes, lots of rancio and strong hints of damp tobacco leaf and furniture oils.
Finish: long, complicatedly fruity, deeply on rancio and full of similar earthy and honeyed combinations.

"Monsieur Sponge is back. Colour: copper. Nose: it's a fruit compote, with ripe cherries, deep red peaches, a hint of caramel, geranium flowers, peonies, and garden compost. It's obviously very beautiful and certainly a tad rustic. Mouth: it's even better on the palate. The pretty obvious woodiness acts like a crown of diamonds around an emerald or a sapphire (you're exaggerating there, S.) More cooked red fruits, chocolate, rosemary, liquorice, a few cloves, touches of tar, a few drops of tomato sauce... Finish: long, very beautiful, almost fresh but always with those notes of cooked fruits. Indian spices (red tandoori). Comments: one can only wonder why most armagnacs age so much better than malt whiskies. We'll have to interview The Sponge on this subject. SGP:661 - 90 points."
