Compass Box Peat Monster 750mL
$104.99
For those who love big, rich, peaty and smoky malt whiskies, this is your whiskey. Bottled at 46%, The Peat Monster combines extremely smoky malt whisky from Islay with medium-peated Highland whiskies to create a balanced and approachable monster, but a monster, nonetheless. Enjoy!
The Peat Monster was featured in Day 3 of our 2018 KWM Whisky Advent Calendar.
Producer Description
"For 2019, The Peat Monster has a new label. Featuring this quite marvellous specially-commissioned painting, all batches released going forward will showcase the new artwork. It isn’t just the packaging that is different, however: the recipe has evolved, too.
Still very much the whisky for those who love big, rich, smoky-peaty malts, our latest version of THE PEAT MONSTER is older and more elegant than before.
"Inspired by feedback from smoky whisky lovers, our new Painting Label of THE PEAT MONSTER incorporates single malts with a more aromatic and graceful style of smokiness. We have sought to retain the peaty intensity for which THE PEAT MONSTER has long been celebrated, whilst creating a depth and elegance not seen before."
Compass Box Great King Street Glasgow
$69.99
The Glasgow Edition of Compass Box's Great King Street series is a more heavily sherried and peated blend than the original Artist's Series. The whisky has been created as a tribute to the style of blend popular in Glasgow during the 1930s.
The whisky is composed of 33% Lowland Grain with 67% malt from Islay, the Speyside and Highland. The whisky was matured in high proportion of First Fill Sherry and a mix of First and Refill American oak and a small amount of French oak.
From the Distillery: "In his 1930 book “Whisky”, Aeneas MacDonald teaches us that Glaswegians historically preferred fuller bodied and more flavour-packed whiskies than people in other parts of the world. So what better name for a whisky such as this? You’ll find here a rich vein of peaty-smokiness, underpinned by sherry cask-aged whiskies, full of dried fruit and wine character. The palate is full and round, with a sweetness typical of whiskies from our company."
About the label: "For decades, The Wellington Statue, outside Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, has been cheekily topped by a traffic cone, something the local population has taken to heart as a symbol of their sense of humour. It has become one of Glasgow’s most iconic images, and graces our label for the Glasgow Blend."
Compass Box Orchard House
$88.99
This whisky was featured on Day 6 of our 2024 KWM Whisky Calendar. You can read Evan's blog post on it here.
This is a game-changing whisky from Compass Box, built not from acquired aged components, but rather new make spirit acquired and filled into Compass Box own casks. Orchard House is composed of primarily Linkwood (39%), Clynelish (29%), Benrinnes (20%) and Caol Ila (2%), all from First Fill ex-Boubon Barrels, along with Highland Blended Malt (2%) from custom French oak casks and a secret Speyside single malt (8%) from Revatted Oloroso Sherry-Seasoned Butts. Hmmm, a "Distillery near the town of Aberlour" sounds a lot like Benfarclas... 46%.
Producer Description
"What is more universally delicious than ripe fruit? Even the greatest chefs have been known to serve a simple dish of strawberries or a single, perfect peach as a dessert.
"Orchard House gathers together some of the fruitiest malts Scotland has to offer, including whiskies from the Linkwood and Clynelish distilleries; what’s more, we have sourced many of these whiskies as new spirit and laid them down in our own oak casks. This, our monument to fresh fruitiness in Scotch whisky, has been many years in the making."
Compass Box Metropolis
$474.99
The third release in the "Extinct Blends" quartet is Metropolis, a Blended Scotch whisky composed of whiskies aged 25-30 years of age, bottled at 49%. The whisky is mainly 30-year-old Aberlour with dashes of 24-year-old Bowmore and 29-year-old Miltonduff. Intrigued? It is inspired by a blend originally created in the late 19th Century, made with Glenmorangie.
Producer Description
"For our third release in the Extinct Blends Quartet, Metropolis, we step into the throng of a striving city through the ages. Blended Scotch began in the metropolis, with blending vats in Glasgow and Edinburgh producing bottles for urban jungles around the world. The soul of blended Scotch continues to reside in the city.
"Vanilla arrives first on the nose, followed by a medley of different honeys. Fudge, apricot and pineapple lead to fresh fig. A rich and very complex palate with sultana, apricot again and hints of smoky woodiness. A long and sweet finish, with a pleasing weight."
Compass Box Celestial
$434.99
This is the fourth and final release in the Compass Box Extinct Blends Quartet, which celebrates - or laments - the blends of decades' past which are no longer available. Celestial draws on peated whisky from Ardbeg and Caol Ila, which are always good malts to build around. Malt from Pulteney and grain from Port Dundas and Cameronbridge are also in the mix along with prior Compass Box blends and other assorted magic, courtesy of Blender James Saxon. Bottled at 51%.
Producer Description
"Our latest and last in the Extinct Blends Quartet Celestial takes to the sky through billowing clouds and glittering constellations, inspired by a whisky from the 1960s with both an extravagant flavour profile and an equine theme. The peatiest of the Extinct Blends Quartet, and our most expansive, Celestial offers a depth of flavour and maturity that has become the series’ hallmark.
Celestial accentuates the smokiness of its forebear, drawing on malt whiskies from the Ardbeg and Caol Ila distilleries, two parcels we previously brought together six years ago for the original No Name."
Compass Box Nectarosity
$104.99
Not happy to rest on their laurels as one of the best blended whisky creators on the planet, Compass Box now seems to be getting into the business of creating words. Compass Box Nectarosity's core is built around seasoning American Oak barrels with grain whisky for a period of maturing and then filling them once more with Malt Whisky. After the malt component matures, it is blended with the original grain whisky component, and the Nectarosity blend is born.
That is the short version - there is more Compass Box magic that goes into creating Nectarosity than just these two core components. You can check out more info below. Bottled at 46% ABV.
From The Producer
"Nectarosity contains casks that we’ve been experimenting with for the last seven years. These casks are special American oak barrels that are deployed twice. First to impart sweet spice to grain spirit for one year, which finishes maturing in other casks; this becomes our parcel of grain whisky from The Girvan Distillery in the composition. Once 'prepared', the barrels age malt whisky from The Clynelish Distillery, bringing grilled apples, nutmeg and maple syrup to the party. We take these two characterful whiskies, blending them with select others to really dial up the juicy fruit and vibrant toffee notes."
Compass Box 25th Annv Hedonism 2025
$249.99
The 2025 edition of Compass Box Hedonism, bottled to mark the firm's 25th Anniversary, was bottled at 46% after finishing in First-Fill ex-Marsala Barriques. Limit 1 Per Customer!
Producer Description
"To us, Hedonism is more than a whisky. It's an idea that transcends time and tradition in Scotch whisky. It's an invitation to share in the pleasures of whisky and the creativity. It's the embodiment of the Compass Box ethos."
"Hedonism has always defied convention, paying homage to tradition of grain whisky distillation in Scotland. Over the years, demand for high-quality grain whisky has increased throughout Scotland, making the calibre of whisky we require for Hedonism ever harder to find. So, in 2024, Hedonism became a limited annual release, appearing once a year in limited quantities, each a different interpetation of that classic Hedonism style. For 2025, we have imbued Hedonism with greater power at 46%, featuring single grain from Cameronbridge Distillery, further matured for two years in a first-fill Marsala barrique."
Compass Box Secrets of Smoke
$271.99
Primarily built from parcels of Caol Ila, Ardmore, and The Peat Monster, it also contains a little Laphroaig and Bowmore. 52% - Limit 1 Per Customer!
Producer Description
"Secrets of Smoke takes you beyond the smoke screen. With this whisky we uncover the sometimes surprising inherent sweetness of peated malts. Take some time to get through the smoke. The longer you sit with it you’ll become accustomed to it as the veil of smoke drops, the sweet side shines through."
"For Secrets of Smoke, we allow those wine casks to crack the smoky outer shell and release the unexpected sweetness at the core of peated whiskies. Palo Cortado sherry-seasoned butts enhancing the toffee apple qualities of malt whisky from the Caol Ila Distillery. Refill red wine barrels tempt bright cherry notes from the depths of The Peat Monster, our own assemblage of Islay malts. And those Marsala barriques bring blueberry flapjack flavours to the surface of malt whisky from the Laphroaig Distillery."
