Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz
$42.99
Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish. Exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub-district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 35—120 years old. On the nose there are hints of cut plum, dried spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, you can expect mid-palate freshness with flavours of blackcurrant and mocha. Finely tuned tannins provide structure and length.
Bishop is the family name of Colin's wife' Judith. Fittingly the sign of Venus, a symbol which has come to represent women and feminine energy, is the centrepiece of the Bishop label.
In mythology, the symbol meant the Roman goddess Venus or her Greek equivalent Aphrodite. But the sign has also been linked back to ancient Egypt – a nod to Bishop’s link to Amon-Ra and Anaperenna.
Sylvain Martel Julienas Magnum
$129.99
Sylvain Martel completed his winemaking training in the Southern Rhone and spent ten years running a small organic estate in the Ardeche. He relocated to Beaujolais, after the Graillot family of Crozes-Hermitage brought him on board to help establish and manage Domaine de Fa. As fate would have it, Sylvain met Anne-Sophie Dubois (we carry her wines as well) in 2016 and settled down in Fleurie. By 2018 he was ready to start his own project and purchased a 1.3ha plot of 45 year old Gamay vines on a dramatic steep slope at 450m altitude in the lieu-dit of Bessay in the western part of Julienas. A terroir of blue stones, the tree-lined vineyard is planted to a high density, cultivation is organic and the yields are kept low (25hl/ha).
Marie Courtin Cuvee Concordance
$159.99
A Kensington Wine Market exclusive! The champagnes from Marie-Courtin are truly something special. An ultra-fine, elegant style with amazing freshness. Delicate and racy, yet absolutely unique in style thanks in part to biodynamic viticulture. All her grapes are grown in a single plot of 2.5 hectares, which is also the total size of the domain that Dominique Moreau founded in 2000. Because all her wines come from a single vineyard, she has decided to emphasize the differences in champagnes through vinification. There are wines matured in barrique, amphorae, enamel tanks and one without sulfur. All come from the 2.5 hectares of single vineyard on the Kimmeridge marl soil of the Soden, on the Côte des Bar. Winemaker Dominique Moreau, who named the estate after her grandmother, is a master of purism. Her champagnes are delicate and elegant, yet with underlying power and a high degree of drinking pleasure.
The Concordance is an Extra Brut 100% Pinot Noir offering with zero dosage from Champagne Marie Courtin and winemaker Dominique Moreau.
Quote From Antonio Galloni
"Proprietress Dominique Morneau embodies all of the qualities of the artisan approach in Champagne. Hers are some of the most adventurous, cutting edges Champagnes readers will come across. Biodynamic farming, the use of natural yeasts, and low or no dosage are some of the elements that inform these wines. Above all else, the Marie-Courtin Champagnes are made with meticulously grown fruit that makes the above possible. Readers who want to explore the outer boundaries of Champagne should pay close attention to this tiny, emerging estate in the Cote des Bars, a previously under the radar part of the region that continues to produced a bevy of compelling wines."
Glaetzer Amon Ra Shiraz
$89.99
Amon-Ra Shiraz is an iconic wine that epitomises Ben Glaetzer’s passion to create wines that are full flavoured, multi layered and intense but still elegant, stylish and finely balanced. The nose has essence of black cherry, dark plums and spice. On the palate look for mouth coating richness with restraint and admirable poise. Multi layered flavours of dark chocolate and dried spice with bright fruits and great palate length. This is a wine that will develop beautifully with long term cellaring over decades.
In Egyptian mythology, Amon-Ra is considered to be the king of all gods. The temple of Amon-Ra was believed to be the first temple to ever plant a monoculture vineyard to produce wine for the citizens of the temple.
The eye on front of the label is the all-seeing eye of Horus or wedjat ("whole one") - a powerful Egyptian symbol of protection. It is represented as a figure with six parts, corresponding to what Egyptians regarded as the six senses; touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell and thought.
Ben created Amon-Ra Shiraz to appeal to all these six senses.
San Leonardo Villa Gresti
$64.99
More than 1000 years ago, San Leonardo was a monastery, but for over three centuries now, it has served as the residence of the Marchesi Guerrieri Gonzaga family, its proud custodians. Today, the estate is a garden of vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which blunt the force of the cold northern winds while the valley floor benefits from, and in turn releases, warmth from nearby Lake Garda. The winemaking practices are still uncompromisingly artisanal, yielding wines that are true gems of Italy’s wine tradition, marked by freshness, harmony, and an innate elegance
It's a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and carmenere, a powerful wine offering notes of raspberries, cassis, balsamic hints, and sweet spices, with the ability to age for another decade.
Greenock Creek Seven Acre Shiraz
$90.99
Thrust into the international wine spotlight thanks to an unmatched eight perfect 100-point scores from the world’s leading wine publication, The Wine Advocate, Greenock Creek remains the proud standard-bearer for long-lived Barossa Valley red wines of deep colour, abundant flavour and great structure.
Their vineyards are situated in the sub-regions of Seppeltsfield, Marananga and Moppa located along the Barossa Valley’s western edge and are some of the oldest vines in the world. Thin, sandy loam topsoils lie sparsely scattered over ancient deposits of bluestone, marble stone, limestone, quartz and ironstone. Rainfall is limited, often to less than 400 millimetres a year falling through winter and early spring. Subsurface clay retains valuable moisture, sustaining the vines through the long, warm and dry summers and autumns. The perfect, low-disease-pressure conditions in which to grow small, healthy bunches of compact, flavour-packed berries.
The Seven Acre vineyard was originally planted in 1990. Each vintage typically undergoes 24-30 months of maturation in American oak with a small amount of further ageing in the bottle before release.
Kay Brothers Basket Pressed Shiraz
$44.99
For well over a century, Shiraz has played the main role in producing wines of outstanding quality, depth and longevity at Kay Brothers. The Basket Press Shiraz continues this tradition. The vineyards sourced for this wine have a predominantly eastern exposure. The soil varies from sandy loam at the top of the hill to heavier loam and clay as it transcends down the hill toward the creek. The dry climate forces the vine roots, ranging from 9 - 18 years, to delve into the complex underlying geology consisting of quartz and ironstone gravels, weathered and calcareous sandstone, siltstone and limestone.
Cosimo Taurino Notarpanaro
$36.99
Taking its name from the farm where the Taurino family started making wine, The Notarpanaro is made entirely from the Negroamaro grape. The grapes come from a single 25 hectare plot and the resulting wine is aged for two years in concrete tanks first, followed by a further half a year refill barriques before bottling. Here is what Wine Enthusiast has to say about the 2010 vintage:
"This well-priced, aged wine offers aromas of brandied cherries, spiced game and herbs on the nose. Its round feel and soft tannins make it entirely approachable to drink on its own, while its savory palate and graphite finish make it a perfect accompaniment to braised lamb or duck."
About The Winery
Cantina Cosimo Taurino was founded in 1970 by the legendary Apulian producer, Cosimo Taurino. He was a pioneer of Negroamaro, and of the Apulian wine industry, changing it's reputation of the 'not so great southern region that only produces bulk grapes for the north' to a region known for it's high quality red and rosé wines. Ever since the winery opened it's doors, they have continued to grow and produce some of the best wines Puglia has to offer.
