The Oude Geuze Vandervelden series are a tribute to the founder of Oud Beersel, Henri Vandervelden, who started the brewery in 1882. The brewery was named Vandervelden until 1954, when his grandson, also named Henri Vandervelden, who took over the brewery in 1953, changes the name to Oud Beersel as a response to what he called to be the changed and the ‘new Brussels’.
To celebrate the 140th anniversary of Oud Beersel, a unique blend was composed, with one- and two-year-old lambics from 40 HL foeders and three-year-old lambic from a 120 HL foeder. The average age of the blend was 30 months, which gives this refined Oude Geuze an extraordinary complexity.

Producer's notes: Oude Kriek Oud Beersel is a traditional Lambic beer, made from real cherries and Lambic matured in wooden barrels.They are slowly absorbed into the Lambic, which develops a fruity character and a ruby red colour. Oud Beersel Oude Kriek contains around 400 grams of cherries per litre, which is the most of its kind.
The authentic production method of Oude Kriek is under European protection. This Oude Kriek has no added sugar and contains no artificial flavourings or preservatives.

Bottled from a marriage of 5 sherry butts and bottled at a precariously low cask strength of 40.8%. Believed to be Bunnahabhain, the whisky scored 90pts from Whisky Fun in 2014, but in 2019 he upped his score to 91pts, which I still feel is low. This is old school tropical whisky!
