Bianka and Daniel Schmidt took over the Weingut Schmitt in 2012 as the fourth generation to lead the winery. They are based in Wonnegau in the south Rheinhessen, centered in Flörsheim-Dalsheim. All of the vineyards are in Flörsheim-Dalsheim and neighbour villages Monsheim and Kriegsheim. Bianka and Daniel have been working their 16 hectares biodynamically for over a decade and are one of only 80 producers in Germany to be Demeter certified. They work with amphorae as well as used oak barrels and release a ‘Natur’ line that contains no added sulphur.

First hitting the market in the USA in 2019, The Kentucky Peerless Small Batch Barrel Proof Bourbon is now in Canada! Though the mash bill used for the Peerless Straight Bourbon is not disclosed, it is likely not very high-rye, as the company has released a High-Rye Bourbon in the USA.
Unchilfiltered. The alcohol volume will vary from batch to batch as Peerless does not proof down their bottles to achieve a consistent ABV. This batch was bottled at the abnormally specific 54.45% ABV, or 108.9 proof.
The Peerless name is a revived brand that first saw light in Henderson, Kentucky in the 1880s. The Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company boomed in the early 1900s under owner Henry Kraver. Though the company's Bourbon was sold during Prohibition under government licence for medical purposes, whisky production did not survive and the distillery was shut down permanently. The revival of the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company was undertaken by Corky and Carson Taylor, the great-grandson and great-great-grandson of Henry Kraver, respectively. The new Peerless distillery is located in Louisville, Kentucky and has been in operation since 2015.
