Producer's notes:
In 2013, Oud Beersel acquired 65 Demi-Muids to mature its lambic beers on. These are oak barrels of about 600 litres with thick staves, which are mainly used in the wine industry. For this special Oude Geuze, Oud Beersel selected its best Demi-Muids with Lambics that have matured for 1 to 4 years in these barrels. Because the staves allow less oxygen absorption than other small barrels, the Lambic on these barrels is more round and tender.

To say we are dying to try this may be the understatement of the year.

Château Prieuré-Lichine’s history is an amazing mix of different eras and styles. From the Roman origins of the property to its rebirth under the Ballande group, 500 years of historic figures and events at this estate have lent it much respect in the Bordeaux community, thanks in large part to Alexis Lichine, the man who really brought this chateau to the forefront. The 2022 vintage has a deep ruby colour with aromas of cassis, licorice, black cherries, spice and cigar box.. There's lots of dark berry fruit, nougat, taut tannins, minerals, fine salty nuances, and good length. It will continue to improve for another decade or more.

The vineyard was founded over 200 years ago by a Scotsman, John Lewis Brown. This visionary figure selected the best parcels of land: his hard work and high standards were rewarded in 1855 when the Bordeaux Classification ranked Cantenac Brown among the most esteemed vineyards. The ripeness is outstanding, with lots of colour, and refined aromas. It's complex and spicy, while the tannins are elegant and plush but show underlying power. It stands up to the challenge of the 2018 and 2019 vintages, with a pretty dash of supplementary freshness. It's a blend of blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, a great choice for the cellar.
