A Kensington Wine Market exclusive! The arid vineyards of Priorat, about a 90-minute drive from Barcelona, produce some of the most sought-after Spanish red wines. Meaty and full-bodied with dark red berries and earthy spice. This is one of our best-selling red wines, and sales go up drastically when the weather cools. It's a blend of 85% Garnacha (aka Grenache) and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines grow on steep, rocky terraces and face challenging, dry conditions and high temperatures. The harsh climate makes for unique, concentrated wines with real complexity, however. Trossos del Priorats farm their land utilizing organic viticultural practices and the wine is fermented in stainless steel tank for a duration of around 21 days. It is then aged in a combination of French and American oak for 12 months. Complex, bold and rich, Trossos Priorat is a perfect match for red meats and game. Think rustic dishes, such as braised short ribs or a chicken stew.

Domaine Raymond Usseglio is a family domaine, created in 1948 by Françis Usseglio, who originally hailed from Italy. They traditionally develop their range of wines, with many of their vines being more than 65 years of age. Usseglio always performs manual harvesting with selective sorting, and all of their wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter. This rosé, with a dominant blend of cinsault (and 10% mourvedre) captivates with its freshness and aromatic profile of luscious fruit and lovely minerality. As an added bonus, they are certified biodynamic, which means it will protect you from werewolves when the moon is full.

This was the oldest bottle of whisky ever bottled, for a little over a year and a half, and it is exclusive to KWM in Alberta! Only 4 of the 250 decanters produced are destined for Canada. Distilled February 3rd, 1940, at the Glenlivet Distillery, the whisky was filled into a First Fill Sherry Butt, and matured 80 years before botlling on February 5, 2020, at 44.9%. Much like the Loire region in France, Chenin Blanc tends to thrive in parts of South Africa and as such it is widely planted, yielding some excellent results. This 100% Chenin Blanc (or Steen as it is sometimes called locally) comes from the Swartland region. It is produced by the Mullineux family and it is fermented in both tanks and used French oak barrels to create a balanced wine with both silkiness and acidity. Great value in a crisp summer white.

Decadent Drams Blair Athol 28 Year KWM

This KWM exclusive 1998 vintage Blair Athol was matured 28 years in a Refill Hogshead cask, before bottling at 56%.
This Blair Athol 28 Year is a partial cask, from which we took 120 bottles. The balance of our cask was married with another (lower ABV) Blair Athol from the same vintage and bottled as a general Decadent Drams release; it is not coming to Canada. But it is worth noting that other Blair Athol was given a 90% score by Le Serge of Whisky Fun fame, so that should give you an idea how good our cask is!
The label design for the Blair Athol is inspired by old Blair Athol OB labels from the 1960s, as Angus feels the liquid to be reminiscent of that era. The moose is a bit of pandering to stereotypes of Canada, and also a riff on a famous Scottish painting, The Monarch of the Glen (1851). Walter has been depicted riding the moose in Black Watch robes, pouring himself a generous dram of the Whisky Sponge Craigellachie 20 Year (from the first bottle he ever featured on), into a nosing bowl, with his one blue eye poking through his sunglasses.

What is Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey you ask? It is whiskey made using a combination of malted and unmalted barley. Why do this you ask? Why, to dodge unfair taxation, of course! The Malt Tax came into being in Ireland for a short time starting in 1785, enforced by the (insert expletive said in your best Irish accent here) English. The Irish, being Irish, decided that they didn't need to use malted barley for the entirety of the mash used to distill whiskey and started adding portions of unmalted barley. Necessity being the mother of invention, this eventually became a legitimate style of whiskey-making that is now not just celebrated but codified into law in Ireland with the Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey classification.
