His are wines in a style you will not encounter anywhere else in Austria: Blaufrankisch vinified as if it were Grand Cru Burgundy, and from hillsides (including terraces) and pre-clonal vines the like of which you will not find being cultivated in most of Mittelburgenland. One sip is an Oz experience (and I don’t mean Aussie, mates!). From his dreams to his vines to his vinification, to his retro label, Velich is in a world of his own. Producer's notes:
For our Aecht Schlenkerla Erle black lager we use a very special smoked malt. This is not dried over beech wood fire, as is usually the case, but over fire made of alder wood. The alder smoked malt brings a fine, complex smoky flavor to the beer – less strong and spicy than in our classic smoked beer. A high roasted malt content provides a pronounced roasted aroma and the dark, almost black color. At 4.2% abv, Aecht Schlenkerla Erle has slightly less alcohol, but is strong in flavor.

Strathearn Single Malt Inaugural Release

The "Inaugural Release" of Strathearn is the first official bottling of the whisky, at least since Douglas Laing took it over in 2019. The distillery bills itself as one of Scotland's smallest, focused more of flavour than yeild. The whisky has been bottled at 50% after maturing in a mix of Bourbon, Sherry, and Virgin oak casks for an average of 7 years.
