The 1897 Bourbon from Old Forester is named in honour of the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. The Bourbon of course adheres to the guidelines put into law by this act, which means:
- All whiskey in the bottle must be produced by one distillery and by one distiller over the course of one distillation season.
- The whiskey must be at least four years old.
- It must be bottled at least 100 proof / 50% ABV
- The whiskey must be aged in bonded warehouses under United States federal supervision.
- The label on the bottle has to state which distillery it comes from and also where it was bottled.

Diageo's Distillers Edition series is sort of a 'shadow version' of their Classic Malts range. The distilleries that make up that coveted sextet are largely household names that most whisky enthusiasts have tasted, or at least heard of: Oban, Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Lagavulin, Cragganmore, and Glenkinchie. And while many folks are familiar with the flagship malts from those iconic distilleries, most haven't tackled the Distillers Edition range, where those classic single malts get treated to a bit of bonus time in finishing casks. This Dalwhinnie DE, for example, is essentially the classic 15-year-old, reracked into ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a period, and bottled each year in limited editions. Expect a richer experience than you'd find in the Classic Malts. A very welcome variation on a theme.
This is the 2021 edition, distilled in 2006, and bottled at 43%.

Their Single Malt is triple distilled and bottled at 46.3% after being matured in a combination of PX Sherry and first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. Penelope Bourbon Bottling Company resides in Frankfurt, Kentucky, though this Bourbon was originally distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Hmm... Which Midwest Grain Distillery could this be a Product of? The fact that this whiskey is sourced is not a bad thing regardless - Penelope has quickly developed a reputation for being masterful blenders of the barrels they purchase, including with this Four Grain Bourbon. Indeed: the Indiana distillery this hails from doesn't actually have a four grain Bourbon Mash Bill. Instead, Penelope purposefully blends casks from two different mash bills together (one set containing rye in the mash and the other set using wheat as the secondary grain) to create this Four Grain Bourbon.
