Rudi Rabl comes from a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1750. The love for nature and grapes, the ecological work in the vineyard with herbal plants and the knowledge of the professional processing ensure an excellent quality of the different types of wine. In the basement, modernity is combined with traditional values. Ecology is an important factor and the winery has been certified as “Sustainable Austria” since 2015. Among the highlights of the awards in recent years is the “White Winemaker” of the Year 2019 at IWSC in London, the two Decanter Trophy Winners Grüner Veltliner Dechant and Riesling Steinhaus, as well as the 2017 regional winner in the Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc categories. "The fact that Peter Wetzer makes any wine at all is a little astonishing. Firstly, he is located in Sopron, a small region on Hungary’s boarder with Austria. His absolutely tiny cellar (if you can even call it that) is in the basement of his family house, in a suburb; shockingly, it’s more complete than his newly obtained cellar, several stories under a house built in the 1700s that looked more like a demolition zone than a winery."
"This is one of the most spectacular vineyards I’ve ever seen: Silberberg really is a Silver Mountain. Sadly, it is sparsely planted anymore, most grape growers long abandoned the steep low-yielding hill in favor of flatter, easier to farm sites. The vines that are still there are well over fifty years old and have their roots deep in schist and quartz. Higher density plantings keep yields perfectly in check. The wine is fermented in open-top wooden vats with 5% whole-clusters. After being pressed off the wine ages in neutral barrels until the following summer." Juice imports

Farr Farrside Pinot Noir

The Farr estate is located in the Moorabool Valley between Geelong and Ballarat, 100km southwest of Melbourne. Gary and Robyn Farr purchased the original property in 1994 and the second section in 1998—this latter had been untouched for almost 40 years and consisted of dense boxthorn and noxious weeds. The final piece of the puzzle, which links the two blocks of land, was purchased by Nick and Cassie Farr in 2011, making a total of 130 acres—of which 36 acres are under vine and the remainder is maintained as grazing and cropping for cattle and horses. With a mixture of different clones and rootstocks, the grape varieties grown here are viognier, chardonnay, pinot noir, gamay and shiraz. Grape growing in this region dates back more than 200 years, with Swiss settlers planting Victoria’s first vineyards here in the early 1800s.

Marcela Orendain Gonzalez is the sister of Eduardo and Jamie of Arette. Marcela does things a little differently in her distillery Casa Mexicana. Gran Orendain is triple distilled, making for a light, delicate, and drier spirit of high quality. The French oak used for maturation is different than the typical ex-bourbon in that it gives a more mild and spicy profile with earthy hints and allows the spirit itself to show off.

Not a ton of Information is out there about the Mezquital varietal (aside from that it’s viable from the ages of about 9 to 13 years) so we let the bottle speak for itself. Dry with a moderate smokiness, but an essence of agave penetrates through it all. Hints of honey and minerality come through towards the finish

Cenizo Colonial is a line of single village Mezcals from the state of Durango. This Cenizo spirit is from the village of San Miguel Temoaya. The machete crushed agave is wild fermented and distilled in unique “Filipino-style” stills. More unique still is the aromas on this bottle. Sweat, light smoke and hints of reptile aquarium with a dry, earthy palate with light tropical fruit and floral notes.

What is Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey you ask? It is whiskey made using a combination of malted and unmalted barley. Why do this you ask? Why, to dodge unfair taxation, of course! The Malt Tax came into being in Ireland for a short time starting in 1785, enforced by the (insert expletive said in your best Irish accent here) English. The Irish, being Irish, decided that they didn't need to use malted barley for the entirety of the mash used to distill whiskey and started adding portions of unmalted barley. Necessity being the mother of invention, this eventually became a legitimate style of whiskey-making that is now not just celebrated but codified into law in Ireland with the Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey classification.
