Our friend Gilles Dumangin, a 4th generation Champagne producer near Reims, also produces a fortified wine called Ratafia Champenois. He has secured whiskies from distilleries all over the world, which he has finished in his own Ratafia casks. They are exclusive to KWM in Canada, with just 24 bottles of each coming into the market. This Bourbon, with a high rye content of 28.5%, was probably distilled by Jim Beam based on the prominent peanut note. It was bottled at 46% after finishing 8 Months in Ratafia Champenois Casks.

Made from MGP Distillery Rye - and that is a good thing! Doc Swinson's has started with the exceptional MGP 95% Rye mash bill and blended it together with MGP's 51% Rye mash bill. Both components are at least five years old before being married into the top row of the Solera system made from casks that previously held rum. The result is a unique take on an American Rye that went south to get a tan and enjoy a Planter's Punch or three!
With warehousing and blending done in Ferndale, Washington, Doc Swinson's is a bottler of sourced Bourbon and Rye Whiskies that are blended together in small (sometimes very small) batches and released under one of three ranges. The bottlings are categorized under Doc Swinson's Flagship, Exploratory, or Rare Release range. Like many independent bottlers of American Whiskey, the venerable MGP Distillery of Indiana seems to be a key component in many of Doc Swinson's releases.

Producer Description
“Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon is finished in port wine casks for an award-winning spirit. We guide each batch’s conditioning, blending our handcrafted bourbon in small batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time. It’s typically aged for up to 6 years. While we lose about 5% of the spirit each year to evaporation, or “the Angel’s Share,” what’s left behind after we’re done is truly worthy of envy.
Once it’s deemed ready, we finish our bourbon in ruby port wine casks, which adds subtly distinct flavor nuances that enhance the whiskey without challenging it. Our port finishing process lasts between three to six months, depending on taste. We use 60-gallon ruby port barrels made from French oak and imported directly from Portugal. This creates a whiskey of unprecedented smoothness, sweetness and balance.”

CINNAMON FLAVOURED BLACK TEA LEAVES
This 15 year old from the Highlands spent 12 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before transfer to a 1st fill Limousin oak hogshead, and comes in at 56.4%.
Flavour profile: Spicy & sweet.
Outturn: 358 bottles.
Panel's tasting note: "An intense dark sweetness emerged from the glass like chocolate fudge with hints of chipotle chili, cinnamon and red pepper, a freshly varnished ebony cabinet or a chest of finest black loose tea. The taste neat stayed dark – cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon and plum black tea possibly served with a Sachertorte (dense chocolate cake with a layer of apricot jam and coated in chocolate icing).
Diluted it turned into a deep, dark caramel sauce with raisins and on the palate a sweet coffee liqueur over Morello cherries. After 12 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead we transferred this whisky into a 1st fill Limousin oak hogshead."
