BenRiach are one of the old vanguard that gets almost universal love, especially as the age statements start to climb deeper into the double digits. And while this 25 year old single cask from Maltbarn was matured in ex-Sherry, the colour alone suggests this will be a bit more nuanced and subtle than some of the spice bomb sherry monsters we've seen of late. And that should be what we hunt in older whisky, right?

There is, of course, no Glen Mosset distillery. There is, however, a distillery known as Benromach that zealously protects its name and isn't keen on allowing indie bottlers to declare any purchased casks as such. Coincidentally, the distillery sits just a handful of steps from the Burn of Mosset (a wee river) up in the Speyside region. Just, ummm...sharing some facts.
Anyway...here's a neat little 'Glen Mosset' from Maltbarn, one of the industry's most consistently awesome independents.
Matured in ex-Sherry wood, natural colour, non chill-filtered, and bottled at 54.2%.

Some of the most interesting bottlings we've had over the past few years have come from German indie bottler Maltbarn. Their eye to quality and adherence to a very pure form of presentation make every release a bit of a treat. What's better still is that they often find hidden gems from some of the more 'out there' distilleries and ranges. Old Rhosdhu, for example, is a range created at Loch Lomond, and last distilled in 2000. You know what that means: liquid history. Let the FOMO begin!
