Cadenhead Small Batch An Irish 10 Year
$119.99
Every once in a blue moon, Cadenhead's Small Batch line graces us with an Irish Whiskey. This 10 year old Irish was distilled in 2006 and filled into two ex-Bourbon Hoggies. It was bottled in 2019 and... wait.. didn't I just say 10 years old? 88pts Whisky Fun!
What is with that math you ask? Apparently it can only be called 10 year old Irish Whiskey as it only spent 10 years aging with in Ireland itself. Any aging that happened after these Hogsheads were moved to Campbeltown there for cannot be counted.
Bottled at 47.4% ABV - 648 bottles total with 24 coming to Canada - exclusively to KWM!
88pts Whisky Fun
" An Irish 10 yo 2006/2019 (47.4%, Cadenhead Small Batch, 2 bourbon hogsheads, 648 bottles) You may note the discrepancy between age and vintage / bottling year. This is almost certainly due to the legality that Irish Whiskey is only as old as the number of years it matures in Ireland. Hence the 10yo age statement from Cadenhead. How very ‘them’ - if I may. Colour: white wine. Nose: surprisingly different. This could almost be vendange tardive pinot gris with these light and toasty honeyed notes wrapped around minerals and some slightly salty mead. Quite a departure from all the others. Pretty unusual and rather good I think. Notes of putty, chalk and something akin to lemon-infused goat cheese. Mouth: rather peppery and fruity on arrival. Exotic fruit yoghurts, mango lassi, lemongrass, chai tea, kumquat and unusual fruits like kiwi and star fruit. Some olive oil and toasty cereals. Finish: good length, again nicely peppery, citrusy, grassy and mineral. Comments: Very good! Great and unusual selection by Cadenhead. Worth trying if you can find it. I really enjoy this quite unusual and oh so Irish fruit profile. SGP: 640 - 88 points."
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Vanilla with pineapple, almonds, peaches and lemongrass.
Palate: Creamy with tropical fruits, kiwi, papaya and passion fruit. Hints of mango and toffee sauce.
Finish: For something so fresh the finish is big and syrupy with bags of fruit. Dangerously drinkable.”

VIGOROUS, CONCENTRATED INTENSITY
This 11 year old from Islay was matured in a refill hogshead and comes in at 59.9%.
Flavour profile: Peated.
Outturn: 266 bottles.
Panel's tasting note: "We found the nose clean and ozone fresh – bonfire smoke drifting over the machair, seaweed, rock-pools, scallop shells and green mussels; smoke-impregnated wood (smokehouse, kiln). Behind the smoke, there was lemon, orange blossom, fino sherry, boiled mint sweets, liquorice and tar. The palate had vigorous, concentrated intensity and deep flavours (tar, aniseed, black liquorice, swirling smoke, tobacco, ashtray) – but still that freshness of menthol and the scent of rain in the air.
The reduced nose added orange peel, lemon on barbecued sardines, sugar-coated fennel seeds and heather flowers. The palate became more rounded and satisfying – sweet woody smoke, smoked almonds, salted caramel, pineapple chunks and langoustines."

ULTIMATE CREAM TEA
This 9 year old Speysider was matured in a 1st fill barrel and the abv is 59.5%.
Flavour profile: Sweet & spicy.
Outturn: 208 bottles.
Panel's tasting note: "The standard components for cream tea were all present and correct as warm scones were served with clotted cream, peach jam and sweet tea. However it was a tantalising treat to also be offered toffee waffles and banofee pie whilst soft lemon sponge cake arrived on a trolley with custard slices. Crumbly digestive biscuits created a lovely texture that complemented creme caramels and a refreshing zing from lime sorbet.
Floral notes from fresh figs then joined under ripe mango with the mouth coating dryness of banana skin. With a little water honey arrived on burnt toast with ginger tea. However to finish we discovered baked Alaska with maple syrup and a touch of white pepper and cloves on shortbread."
