Truth Malters Tasting Note

Nose: Right out of the bottle you are hit with a Honeycomb, Beeswax Sweetness followed by Vanilla, Apricot, hints of floral, Dark Red Fruit, Raisins, Raspberries, Plums, all as if they were covered with honey on toast.

Palate: Think Fruits covered in sweet thick honey or syrup, slight notes of chestnuts and cinnamon jump out and then are quickly swallowed up with peach and more fruits.   Honey, chestnut, peach skin, dark sweet spice, cinnamon.

Finish: A complete full flavoured complex yet sweet Virgin Oak bomb.  Tons of exotic fruits, guava, with a dark sweet warm spicy finish, that covers your mouth with a honey cocoa and then out of the blue came raspberries which I didn’t catch on the nose at all but were there at the finish. The finish is long and something to be savoured – an amazing all around drink.

Andrew's Tasting Note Coming Soon!

Producer Tasting Note

"On the nose, batch 003 is fresh like a green apple, with the sweetness of cream soda and vanilla, characteristic of the ex-bourbon casks, layered with orange peel and a slightly grassy note to round out the pleasant and enticing aroma. The taste builds from a mellow start, with a gentle nuttiness enhanced by a full and silky mouthfeel and tends towards a rich, Christmas spice, warming finish."

Bruichladdich Octomore 10.4

$174.99

COMING SOON - ETA Wednesday January 15 - Limit 2/customer!!!

The Octomore 10.4 was distilled in 2016 at 88ppm, and was bottled after 3 years at a punchy 63.5% after maturing in virgin French oak.

Producer Description

"Octomore has always challenged convention. Many preconceived ideas about whisky have been overturned but perhaps the most provocative stigma still to be shattered is that which surrounds age. Distilled from Scottish barley in 2016, this three year old Octomore 10.4 is the youngest ever released, yet the most impressive. Standing alone in any heavyweight line-up, the depth, balance and composure of this Virgin Oak release is astounding. Twenty-eight casks cut from Limousin oak have been subjected to a high toast before making their way to Warehouse 12 for filling. Their high tannic impact is subsided by a high toast level which gives way to a dry fruit character that is impeccably well-rounded."

Producer Tasting Note

Character: A dram of depth and worth taking some time to get to know. Greater than the sum of its parts with each of those parts having an individual story of their own.

Nose: There is a richness, chocolate, tobacco, bonfire smoke, leather. Vanilla custard, blueberry, dry straw and pear drops.

Taste: Warming, spicy – mulled wine. Leather and tobacco, malt sugar, icing sugar. All wrapped in earthy peaty smoke. Dry on the palate.

Finish: Oak driven, coconut, tobacco, vanilla, then smoke. The time in the cask has calmed the smoke, both through the phenols lowering naturally over time and the influence of the oak becoming greater.

More Details

"Our Octomore single malts have defied received wisdom since they were first distilled in 2002. Adopted by the quietly confident, Octomore has gathered a dedicated following over the years. Now reaching its 10th series, our new iterations explore a different realm of ‘softer smoke’. We ask you to dismiss the numbers, and forget everything you think you know. Experience the liquid for yourselves. An openness for the unexpected is encouraged in its creation, so too in your reception. Forget about whisky. Forget about the Octomore you thought you knew. This series will destabilise even the most devout aficionado. Complex, layered, and endlessly alluring… with instinct over obsession. This is Octomore 10."

DONNING THE NIGHT CAP

This 8 year old Speysider comes in at 60.2% after maturing in a 1st fill barrel.

Flavour profile:  Sweet & spicy.

Outturn:  228 bottles.

Panel's tasting note:  "After fluffing pillows and unfolding blankets the aromas invited us to relax amongst honey-scented candles and spicy incense. Sweet smells came from the confectionery box with rice paper, wine gums and fruit pastilles whilst floral notes soothed the mood with parma violets and Turkish Delight.

Feeling calmed by ginger and cloves we rested our feet in cinnamon slippers and sipped on hot malted milk drink. The ambrosial smell of menthol on balsa wood drifted past as we tucked into sticky apricot jam on brown toast followed by cookies still warm from the oven and a small measure of bourbon whiskey."

DEEP, RICH AND BURNT FRUIT

This 20 year old Highlander was matured in a refill hogshead and comes in at 52.4%.

Flavour profile:  Lightly peated.

Outturn:  265 bottles.

Flavour profile:  "The nose carried the rich opulence of truffle oil with old leather and the subtle spice of sandalwood. Sweet notes oozed like treacle on charcoal and toffee apples delivered fruit that morphed into oranges on a bonfire and tropical fruit in syrup. Delicate wild flowers appeared through a smog of applewood smoke to merge with mixed herbs and salted butter.

Burnt toffee introduced a palate that delved into sticky barbecued ribs and roast pork glazed with marmalade. A hint of heather and violets reconsidered floral qualities however the finish arrived with roasted chestnuts dipped in salt and toasted marshmallows on the end of charred sticks."

IT'S PEAT JIM, BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT...

This 7 year old Highlander was matured in a 2nd fill hogshead and comes in at 58.6%.

Flavour profile:  Lightly peated.

Outturn:  302 bottles.

Panel's tasting note:  "A remarkable concoction of peated jelly babies, medical tinctures, silage, burnt kelp, sandalwood, fishing nets, wet beach pebbles, charred wood, chalk and lively minerality. Wonderfully funky! Develops further notes of dried twigs, farmyard, marzipan and crystallized fruits.

Water unearths pineapple jelly, ointment, wood smoked porridge oats, burnt toast, peppermint candies, toffee apples and then notes of spring greens fried in butter and BBQ char. The mouth is slathered in greasy peats, TCP, tar resin, gentian eau de vie and peat oils. The mineral aspect remains gravelly while water adds leather rags, boiler smoke, paraffin wax, toasted fennel seed and Selkirk bannock. A uniquely characterful dram!"

KEPT IN THE DARK

This 7 year old Speysider comes in at 64.4% after maturing in a refill hogshead.

Flavour profile:  Juicy, oak & vanilla.

Outturn:  230 bottles.

Panel's tasting note:  "In the corner of a dark and damp dunnage warehouse a single beam of light danced over the cracked putty of a broken window and illuminated a pile of charred wood and wine corks. The air merged aromas of dried orange skin and grapefruit oil with the heavy spices of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Red fruits waited in the shadows alongside walnuts and Brazil nuts while hot cross buns joined sweet crumbly biscuits.

Water washed away thick layers of dust to uncover old leather and tobacco while a blanket of incense smoke brought turmeric and green tea. Damp leaves were scattered on the floor, however through the darkness came dried mango, apple tarts and melon sweets with butterscotch and cocoa nibs that lasted into a finish bound by cream soda."
