Panel's tasting note: "The nose is essentially fresh and flirtatious – lemon sherbet and lemon puff biscuits, grass and vanilla; deeper notes of fruit loaf and Eccles cakes lurk behind, but are eventually superseded by orange blossom, new oak and pine forests. The palate is a sweet, fruity, citrus zingy thing – lemon and lime sorbet, passion fruit, orange jelly, fruit Mentos and blackcurrant lozenges; though the aftertaste picks up a bit of leather, tobacco, cumin and coriander heat.
The reduced nose – vanilla sarsaparilla, apple, pear and ripe blackcurrant. The palate – still fruity (apple pie, blackcurrant jam, gooseberry), but with cheeky pickled ginger and wasabi spiciness later."

87pts Angus for Whisky Fun: “Colour: coppery gold. Nose: a rather striking mix of orange oils and limoncello at first. Lots of cocktail bitters, barley sugars, mixed citrus peel, bitter marmalade, travel sweets and blood orange. Parts of it leaning towards cough syrups and cherry throat sweets as well. Quite different and very enjoyable. With water: a wee touch of lemongrass, olive oil, warm breads and some fresh orange peel. Mouth: orangey, rather nutty and quite sugary. Like curaçao mixed with herbal bitters and marmalade. A good winter dram it would appear. Some soft tobacco notes in the background alongside sultanas and dates With water: winter mulling spices, herbal cough medicine, orange cordial and more barley sugars. Finish: medium and rather herbal, slightly bitter, more orange pith, some aniseed and more notes of cough medicine in the aftertaste. Comments: I didn’t mention refill ‘sherry’ hogshead, but there’s definitely some kind of sherry mystique about this one. Seasonally appropriate wintery ‘mulled’ whisky. SGP: 551 - 87 points.”

Nose: It’s a rather typically exotic and fruity 1970s style Glenfarclas. Lots of ripe fruits such as apples, banana, pineapple and guava with honey, pollen, green tea and sultanas. Although, it’s not quite ‘exuberant’ in its fruitiness like earlier vintages can be, there’s a real sense of elegance and restraint about the nose. Pretty typical excellent ‘refill’ profile. Hints of crystallised fruits, damsons and mirabelle eau de vie.
Mouth: lovely balance between honeys, candied citrus peels, various herbal teas, wormwood, mint jelly and pressed wildflowers. Also some hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.
Finish: medium and on soft notes of tea, lemon balm, pineapple jelly and old Sauternes.
Comments: in some ways it’s rather simple, but here that’s an asset as everything is beautiful and in its place and perfectly balanced. Easy and classical old farclas.”

Breathe In: Peaty and medicinal with a strong toffee, herbal and spicy character followed by heather fragrance with a hint of Rosemary. Old Port wine notes complemented by raspberries coulis and red berries.
Sip: Sweet and salty with a smoky, mixed with sultanas, sugarplums, salted caramel and sweet leathery notes. Pepper and spices with a violet fragrance.
Savour: Earthy carbolic notes, salted dates, dried herbs, sweet tobacco, sweet dried cranberries and a touch of white pepper.

Nose: Polished leather and tobacco leaves with spicy lemon and clementine zest. Subtle notes of golden syrup and rich heather honey, with autumn leaves, hazelnuts, vanilla fudge and a touch of white pepper and nutmeg. Dried camomile flowers and a touch of passion fruits.
Palate: Sweet with rich toffee, with dates, maple syrup, praline and crème caramel. Grilled chestnuts with tarte Tatin, marzipan and strong black pepper. Cedar wood, a touch of furniture polish and beeswax.
Body: Full bodied.
Finish: Sweet, long with caramel and spicy buttery fudge.”
