Coopers Choice brings an opportunity to taste malts which are not frequently found in the general marketplace. Casks of malts at different ages are selected from some of Scotland's finest, but rarely bottled distilleries. In 1846 John Dewar was one of the first merchants to sell whisky in "branded bottles." He eventually opened the Aberfeldy distillery in 1898 to supply whisky for blending.

Tasting note by George S. Grant (Brand Ambassador): A light whisky on the eye. However, a honey sweetness you would associate with a much darker dram. Although not as heavily sherried as other Glenfarclas expressions, the nose on this whisky is divine. Very sweet and well balanced. A buttery smooth whisky, with spicy undertones. A short intense finish, which fills your entire mouth.

Glenturret distillery--which was know by the name Hosh until 1875--was founded in 1775, and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland; and with but two stills it is also one of its smallest! The nose is malty with fresh fruit aromas, some herbal notes and a slight floral element. The palate is sweet and spicy - dried grass, leafy, floral and fruity notes combine. Finishes dry with leafy, bracken note.

This Lowland Distillery took its name from St Magdalene's Cross, once the site of a mediaeval fair and leper colony. The Union Canal which ran behind the distillery supplied the cooling water and served the distillery logistically. The distillery was closed in 1983 and the site redeveloped! The nose is very fruity, with a strong European Oak character; it is also somewhat herbaceous and oily with a touch of dark chocolate. 89pts Jim Murray
