Tullibardine 1964
$1,079.99
This single cask of Tullibardine was bottled at 42.1% from a Sherry Hogshead Cask 3354. Bottled in 2011, a very small amount of this has reappeared in Alberta, it won't last long!
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: very floral and toasty, potpourri, lots of fruit, pineapple and melon with heather honey and a touch of malt.
Palate: surprisingly still malty, toastier than the 1962, orange rind, refined sugar and melon; pineapples and orange rinds; very layered, delicate and soft.
Finish: long, coating, smooth, toasty and floral; still silky.
Comment: a beautiful cask, still far from showing its age!
Glenfarclas Family Cask 1964
$1,999.99
The First Edition Glen Garioch 1990
$204.99
This First Editions bottling of Glen Garioch has been bottled from a single Refill Hogshead cask at 56.8%, after 24 years in the barrel. Glen Garioch, located in the Eastern Highland town of Oldmeldrum, was built in 1797, and is one Scotland's oldest surviving distilleries. The distillery had its own malting floor until 1995, and prior to that date used varying levels of peat in their malt. Pre-1995 Glen Gariochs often have very inconsistent styles as a result, but are all the more interesting for it. Only 30 bottles have come to Calgary, exclusively to KWM.... not many left!
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: honey, salted caramel, crisp smoke and potpourri; candied orange slices, midrib melons and almond paste filled croissants.
Palate: thick malt, big honey and over salted caramel ice cream; black spices and firms smoke over more candied orange, midori melon liqueur; leather, tobacco and Christmas cake emerge with some bakers chocolate... so a sherry hogshead?
Finish: smooth, long, coating and rich with tendrils of sherry and smoke snaking around each other to the finale... which is a long ways off!
Comment: the sherry and peat compliment each other beautifully in this dram; it is firm and rich, but elegant!
BenRiach 1996 KWM Cask 189
$219.99
We take great pride in selecting single casks to be bottled for our store, and this one is no exception. Our 5th exclusive cask of BenRiach was distilled in 1996 and bottled at 54.8% after 19 years in a Bourbon Barrel. Only 189 bottles exclusively available from KWM!
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: creamy, toasty and very honeyed with bright citrus notes of lemon and orange; marzipan and melons, hot spices and barley sugars; thick and oily, though not enough to overshadow its more delicate nuances.
Palate: bright citrus notes burst on the tongue with melons, creamed honey, toasted oak and wildflowers on a hot spring day; the decadence of the barley and oak is still there with the heat of hot spices: white pepper, cinnamon hearts and candied ginger.
Finish: long, juicy and coating with more creamy, coating sugars, spices and citrus fruits.
Comment: Bourbon meets Malt in this exceptional chewy Speyside dram.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: creamy vanilla custard and rich toffee pour over glace pineapple. Hints of green apple skin and crystallized ginger with a smooth, sweet barley back-note.
Palate: a superb balance of sweet oak spices, wild flower honey and cinnamon contrast with a twist of lime and a grinding of white pepper.
Glendronach '03 KWM Cask 1750 Virgin Oak
$125.99
Our 6th exclusive KWM Cask of Glendronach is a twist on the typical sherry monters we see from the Glendronach Distillery. Glendronach 2003 Cask 1750 has been selected and bottled exclusively for Kensington Wine Market at 54.5% and 12 year of age. It was finished in a Virgin Oak Hogshead after maturing in sherry. Only 228 bottles came from the cask,
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: cola cubes and coconut icing start things off, with Dulce de Leche, silky caramel and Demerara sugars; the is orange, melon and chocolate strawberries there too.
Palate: silky and warming with building spices, more Dulce de Leche, Highland Tablet, Demerara sugars and eventually the soft caramel; more cola cubes, chocolate strawberries and orange rind; the melons and more exotic tropical fruits are there but buried by the weight of the sherry and virgin oak notes.
Finish: long, coating, creamy, fruity and decadent with sugars, spice and everything nice.
Comment: this is not your typical Glendronach, while the sherry notes are there the virgin oak has leant a wonderful silkiness to the nose and palate; if you are looking for a sherry monster, keep looking, if you’re looking for a slightly different twist on Glendronach, look no further!
