The vineyard enjoys a microclimate tempered by breezes and marine mists. Picpoul produces a crisp white wine that will make you long for a comfortable beach chair and some sand! The Picpoul de Pinet from Domaine Reine Juliette is fermented in stainless steel and released shortly after winemaking is complete in order to capture the freshness and youth of the wine. The nose has aromas of freshly cut grass, herbs, and salty air, with citrus fruits and minerality on the palate.

Planted in 1981, bush vine (un-trellised), farmed organically. This is a 1.5ha block which was abandoned in 2014, they approached the farmer Rick Mcgrindle and asked if they could try and revive it. The first vintage in 2016 resulted in no grapes but in 2017 showed tremendous growth and yielded nicely.
Winemaker Craig says: 'Baby Bandito is a project we started in 2015. We wanted to work with vineyards that deliver wines that can be drunk young yet still “over deliver” in quality one would expect from our most affordable wine. There was a heavy influence from street artists (the good ones, not just your drunk student defacing someone’s wall, unless it was good) in the labels and the idea of a “series” using different and bright colours. The names of the wines come from expressions that we use as if giving encouragement to a child. Stay Brave is our “Baby” skin contact Chenin.'

Japan might not be the first nation that comes to mind for rum production, but this agricole style rum from Helios Distillery on the island of Okinawa is worth checking out. The sugarcane used is harvested from this subtropical island and the juice is distilled in pot stills before being aged in American Oak. Bottled at 40% ABV.
For those who don’t know, Agricole rum is a french style that was created when sugar beets started being used for sugar, and the demand for cane juice decreased. Producers turned to use the cane juice for rum instead of sugar. Agricole rum is softer and often exhibits grassy and herbaceous notes.
This Okinawa rum is young and soft with hints of cane syrup and dunder. Mildly funky and fruity.
