This 2009 vintage Ardlair, was finished in an Octave (62L) Moscatel cask, before bottling at 16 years and 56.9%. We weren't looking for an Ardlair (unpeated Ardmore) cask, let alone an Ardlair finished in a Moscatel Sherry Cask. But the price was fair for a 16 Year, so we reserved judgment until we received the sample, and boy am I happy we did. Only 60 bottles, so they won't last long!

It's also abundantly clear that Ardmore is being handled with love and care at Gordon & MacPhail, where they match that big earthy, organic spirit profile with incredibly complimentary cask types. In this case, Refill Sherry Hogsheads. Miss this one at your own risk.

"This 2000 Ardmore is a great medley of farmy, earthy, smoky and sherry notes. We don’t normally go for whiskies that have been finished or re-racked. However, in this instance, the quality and richness of the sherry influence married so well with the fat, lightly peaty Ardmore distillate character that we couldn’t resist this lovely dark and gooey concoction. Bottled at natural cask strength, the finish is long and going towards tar resins, wood oils, mineral oil, strop leather and sooty waxes."

It is comparable aged and priced to the 25 Year G&M CC Ardmore 1997 KWM Cask we are expecting in early April... thought the latter is cask strength, and rather sherried!
