A wonderful Valpolicella from a small, family-owned producer that's doing great things after only a short time! The Terra di Leone winery is relatively young, "located in the village of Marano di Valpolicella in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, close to Verona in Northeastern Italy," according to the winery website. As for the wine, it is an "intense garnet red. Powerful, high quality spicy aromas. On the palate it is complex and full bodied with a long finish and velvety fruity notes. These result from the long drying process the grapes undergo."

Valpolicella is the famous wine growing region in the north of Italy. Generally three grapes are used in the production of Valpolicella: Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. The grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October and, after fermentation, rest in large oak barrels for a year. The resulting wine is very fresh with clear notes of cherry and currants.
