One of two new bonded whiskey releases from Breuckelen Distilling which resides right in Brooklyn, New York. This is the first release of the distilleries Bottled in Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Batch/Project No.1 is a Wheater; using Wheat instead of Rye in the Mash Bill. It was harvested distilled, and put into barrel all within the same season of 2013, as it needs to be under Bottled in Bond regulations.
The exact Mash Bill for Project No. 1 was 60% Corn, 20% Red Wheat, and 20% Malted Barley. It was twice distilled before going into virgin oak barrels at about 75% ABV. At four years of age, it was bottled at 50% ABV.
The term "Bonded" or "Bottled in Bond" means that this whiskey had to adhere to the following standards as originally written into law by the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897:
- All whiskey in the bottle must be produced by one distillery and by one distiller over the course of one distillation season.
- The whiskey must be at least four years old.
- It must be bottled at 100 proof / 50% ABV
- The whiskey must be aged in bonded warehouses under United States federal supervision.
- The label on the bottle has to state which distillery it comes from and also where it was bottled.
About the Distillery
Breuckelen Distillery was founded in 2010 in Brooklyn, New York. Like many of the newer and smaller craft distilleries, they have a focus on using mostly local ingredients - which in this case means using mostly organic grains grown their home state of New York whenever possible.

Maker's Mark is a mellow bourbon, made with wheat in place of rye with a mash bill of 60% Corn, 26% Red Winter Wheat, and 14% Malted Barley. To create the Maker's 46, the Bourbon has been finished in the same barrels as the regular but with new French oak staves inserted to add additional flavours of caramel, spice and vanilla. Firm, complex dry spices, herb, and some polished leather "grip", which dovetails well with Maker's trademark layered sweetness, Dried fruit and somewhat aggressive, but never excessive oak.

This is a Bonded Bourbon from Old Grand-Dad/Jim Beam Distillery in Kentucky. It uses the Old Grandad recipe, which is a high-rye mash bill, purportedly amounting to about 27% Rye in the mash.

The Rye brand takes its name from Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and hearkens back to that states long-lost but once highly regarded "Monongahela" rye whiskies.

The Bonded Rye is made from a Mash Bill of 100% Rye and aged for at least four years in virgin oak barrels before being bottled at 50% ABV, or 100 proof.
