Our first exclusive single barrel of Elijah Craig, and our first exclusive Bourbon cask in over a year. This one has taken quite some time to reach us, probably due to the fact the distillery changed agents midway through the process. It has actually arrived in-store 2 weeks shy of the one year anniversary of our selection of the barrel. Barrel 5214622 was matured in Warehouse F / Floor 3 / 17F. It has been bottled at 47%, as is typical for the brand.
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: nutty with musty old oak, fresh cut cedar, maple butter and beeswax; orange rinds and candied cherries; a touch of chocolate, leather and tobacco.
Palate: sweet, toasty and very nutty; pecan pie and butter tarts, roasted almond and salted peanuts; more cedar shavings and smouldering oak; becomes leathery with some tobacco, aromatic bitters and dark unsweetened bakers chocolate; late spices, maraschino cherries and orange peel.
Finish: long, smooth and elegant; the darker notes burn off first leaving the decadent oak, spices and fruit tones to follow later.
Comment: it goes without saying that this is a brilliant single barrel, would KWM put its name on anything less? true to our style we have sought out complexity over intensity with respect to the oak influence.

This is Michter's Flagship Bourbon, bottled at 45.7%, it is excellent value.
While the Michter’s name has a long and storied history, the Michter’s Distillery of Louisville, KY has only been in operation since 2015. Any whiskey bottled that is older than that was sourced from other distilleries, typically within Kentucky. Luckily, the quality of anything bottled with the Michter’s label on it is typically high, regardless of their original provenance.
Other than their single barrel products, Michter’s typically bottles their whiskey from selected small batches of 20 barrels or less.
From the Distillery: "Michter’s US 1 Bourbon is made from a carefully selected mashbill that features the highest quality American corn. It is then matured to the peak of perfection, with barrels often aging in excess of eight years. Truly “small batch,” each batch of our US 1 Bourbon is typically composed of no more than two dozen barrels, leaving no margin for “blending out” imperfection and thus necessitating excellence from every barrel," according to the team at Michter's. It has notes of "rich caramel with balanced vanilla, stone fruit notes, smoky depth, with an oak finish."

Old Forester 86 Proof is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon made at Old Forester Distillery in Lousiville. The Old Forester Distillery is owned by Brown-Foreman, who also owns the Woodford Distillery which is responsible for Woodford Reserve and is located in Versailles, Kentucky.
Old Forester's Bourbon mash bill is purportedly the same as that for its Woodford Reserve cousin, which is 72% Corn, 18% rye, and 10% Malted Barley.

This wheated bourbon left Billy Idol crying more, more, more and purportedly used to be a favourite of both Keith Richards and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. Bottled by a company named Luxco, who sources barrels for its various bottlings including Rebel Yell and Ezra Brooks. Luxco now operates its own distillery just outside of Bardstown, KY called Lux Row distillery.
Lux Row Distillery just opened in 2018, so it will be a while before this Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is actually bottled from that new spirit. Rebel Yell was previously produced through a contract with Heaven Hill Distillers at their Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY. 40% ABV.
