Made from Jack Daniel’s typical mash bill of 80% Corn, 12% Rye, and 8% Malted Barley. The mash was distilled and then put through the Lincoln County Process before being put into heavily charred virgin oak barrels made at the distillery’s own cooperage. At its base level, the Lincoln County Process used to make Tennessee Whiskey means that the new make spirit or white dog/white lightning is filtered through sugar maple charcoal before being put into barrels to age. Jack Daniel’s has its own version of this, wherein the distillery burns sugar maple boards/ricks to a heavy char and then sprays them down with water to prevent complete combustion. After burning the new charcoal is ground into pellets and packed into vats through which the 70% ABV new make spirit filters through. The filtered spirit is cut to 62.5% ABV and put into heavily charred virgin oak barrels to age away.

"The Volstead Act of 1920 which initiated Prohibition in the USA granted permits to six distillers in Kentucky to continue to bottle bourbon for medicinal purposes. Through one of these permits, Old Forester continued to be produced as medicinal whiskey on Louisville’s famed Whiskey Row. It is the only bourbon continuously sold by the same company that has been available for sale before, during and after Prohibition.
During this time, all whiskies had to be bottled at 100 Proof. With a barrel entry proof of 100, the “angel’s share” would have created a 115 proof whiskey after maturation. To pay homage to this era, Old Forester presents 1920 Prohibition Style Bourbon at 115 proof to represent the rich flavor profile this bourbon had nearly 100 years ago."

Gentleman Jack from the Jack Daniel's Distillery of Tennessee is the smoother, kinder version of JD that you may be looking for. What set's it apart is the fact that it is "Double Charcoal Mellowed". This means that Gentlman Jack undergoes the Lincoln County Process twice - being filtered through sugar maple charcoal both before it is poured in to barrel for maturation and again right before it is bottled. 40%.

The JD Single Barrel was introduced to the world in 1997. It is bottled at 94 Proof, or 47% ABV. The barrels are selected from the higher floors of Rickhouses and the aim is for all selected casks to have “subtle notes of caramel and spice with bright fruit notes and sweet aromatics for a Tennessee Whiskey” according to the Jack Daniel’s website. Every single barrel has some differences stylistically, though, so every bottle of it you buy might be very on the nose and palate.

Whoa! Old No. 7, this ain't. This Single Barrel Rye caused a bit of a buzz when it launched, being JD's first new mash recipe since 1866! With a mashbill consisting of 70% rye and less than 20% corn, expect this lil Tennessee treat to bring a big spicy complexity to what we normally think of when we hear the words Jack Daniels. This rye is a far cry from the hot bite of young corn-led whiskey we see usually see behind the iconic black and white label. And make no mistake...this is no shooting whiskey; instead, this is a rather spectacular example of well-crafted American whiskey with a dangerous degree of drinkability. Should suit both rye-hounds and bourbon-fiends.
