A single barrel rum from the Uitvlugt distillery in Guyana. This is a joint bottling with Heads & Tails, the Canadian importer for The Whisky Agency. Distilled in 1990, bottled in 2016 after 25 years in an Ex-Bourbon barrel. 49.7%
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: big, dark and thick; ground espresso, vanilla bean, licorice root; earthy with dunnage notes, wet leaf litter and cinnamon sticks; Eatmore candy bar.
Palate: round, rich, layered and leathery; very earthy and spicy; licorice root and salted Dutch licorice; tarry, Cuban cigars, a touch of burnt rubber; much nuttier than expected: walnuts and pecans.
Finish: tarry and leathery, nutty; spicy, black licorice, caramel and fruits.
Comment: this is a big rich rum, lots of layers, not as candied or sweet as the El Dorado 25 Year; quite a contrast.Â

The El Dorado 25 Year is one of the most sought after rums in the world. We haven't seen it for several years and are only getting 6 bottles. The rum comes from Demerara Distillers in Guyana, it is a limited release that is only produced from excellent single vintages.

The constant ambient warmth and tropical conditions of Demerara dramatically hasten the maturation process – producing a spirit that is the equivalent of one aged for many more years in a cooler climate. Tasting Notes: An extremely rare creature, this rum is rich, smooth and mellow with soft syrupy mouth-feel and subtle notes of caramel and heavy fruit cake. An after-dinner treat for sipping slowly and sparingly."
