From Ardmore Distillery in the Highlands of Scotland comes the Ardmore Legacy. Bottled at 40%, it is lightly peated as just about all Ardmore whisky is. Matured in American oak it is produced from 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt.
Evan's Tasting Note
Nose: Did somebody call for breakfast? Crispy bacon, oatmeal with honey and peach slices, and pancakes with syrup. Plus a little cigar smoke and ivory soap bar.
Palate: A bit salty with a floral smokiness, vanilla, bacon again, hot chocolate powder, oatmeal cookies, and lemonade.
Finish: Smoky with fruit and malt and a touch of lavender.
Comment: Not the most complex single malt in the world, but it gives you an idea of what Ardmore is capable of. It is well put together for a NAS 40% Single Malt Scotch.
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: It leans more on the savoury than the sweet side of things, with light barbecue char and earthy notes up-front.
Sweet cinnamon, fresh honey and vanilla toffee waft up at points.
Palate: More charred, smoky notes, joined by drying oak, pear drops and subtle grassy touches.
Give it a minute for citrus zest and expressive heather to appear.
Finish: A lasting peat smoke finish, with a little bit of honey'd barley for good measure.
