This is a complex, robust porter with aromas akin to scratch and sniff peanut butter stickers. It is jet black in colour with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavour is accented by strong notes of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.5% abv. Johnnie Walker Black Label is at least 12 years old and is light and smokey in style. This iconic blend traces its origins back to 1870 when it was called Old Special Highland Whisky, renamed Johnny Walker Black Label in 1909. The second from entry level expression can be sipped neat of mixed. While the Black Label is comprised of between 35 and 40 individual components, there are five distilleries that are considered its main building blocks. These cornerstones are Talisker, Caol Ila, Cragganmore and Glenkinchie for the malt portion and Cameronbridge for the grain whisky.

Vines in the direction of Nolay, bought in 2014 – 2015 was the first vintage – from an 8 ha domaine shared with Sauzet – about 6km from domaine, vines on hillsides, over 400m with plenty of clay in this soil. Harvested about a week later than the vines around Chassagne – patience is always needed. – “It could go in the Bourgogne but I prefer to make two cuvées.”
Pretty, floral, instantly attractive. More drive and freshness. A hint of barrel but here is really an impressive width of finishing flavour, saline edged – this is excellent.’

’A shimmer of reduction – agrume style. More forward, mouth-puckering acidity is the first impression but the wine relaxes some over the palate – yellow citrus and a touch of oak today – the finish fading attractively…’
