The 18 year old Arran was added to the distillery's core range in 2016 for its 21st anniversary. Bottled at 46%, un-Chillfiltered and with no colouring added, the Arran 18 year old is created predominantly from carefully selected first and second-fill Ex-Sherry casks. Rich, fruity with some soft spices in style, the 18 year year old Arran represents a great value for its age. The new packaging looks good, but I still love the old one! #torn The current release wa bottled 07/09/2021.

Andrew's Tasting Note - 9/20/2019 Bottling
Nose: dark chocolate, fruit leather and Eatmore... classic Christmas Cake tones, and loads of dark fruits: raisins, dates and figs; barrel aged maple syrup and fruit compote; soft leather and dry cigar tobacco.
Palate: rich, fruity, spicy and very sherried; more barrel aged maple syrup, fruit compote and classic Christmas Cake; crisp spices: nutmeg, clove and fennel; loads of dark fruit too: raisins, grilled dates and fig jam; dark chocolate too and underneath all of that bright citrus tones and melons.
Finish: long, rich, coating, spicy and drying; as with the palate soft fruits emerge as the sherry notes are pulled back; layered and elegant.
Comment: Arran remains an underated and underappreciated whisky, and this is another classic example of why that shouldn't be the case; but on the bright side that just leaves more Arran for the rest of us who are in the know!
Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Orchard fruits with syrup and toasted oak
Palate: Caramelised orange, dark chocolate, baked peaches
Finish: Sweetness, Spice, Citrus, Baked peaches.
Andrew's Tasting Note (Older Version)
Nose: fruit flan, honey, heather and vanilla cream; melons, juicy orange and barley sugars; loads of white chocolate, maple syrup and chocolate covered almonds.
Palate: more fruit flan, vanilla cream, heather and creamed honey; loads of barley sugars, ginger and cinnamon with maple syrup, chocolate covered almonds; big orange, melons and white fruits.
Finish: long, coating, creamy and spicy; loads of fruits, subtle spices and balanced oak; very layered.
Comment: this is lovely, the distillery's first core 18 year old bottling has easily met my expectations; a fitting tribute to their 21st year
