Willi, who was born in 1949, made his first vintage in 1971, then still with his father. During Willi’s career, the Schaefer wines achieved an international reputation. The winery, as it exists today, is also the life’s work of Martha (1924-2013) and Willibrord Schaefer (1912-1995). In the difficult post-war period, they built today’s manor and farm buildings and produced, even at that time, outstanding wines. The family's vineyards are located in Graacher Dompropst and Graacher Himmelreich, as well as in Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The plots are located on steep slate slopes and consist of up to 100-year-old, ungrafted vines. Graacher Domprobst roughly translates to the Kingdom of Heaven. The Graacher Dompropst vineyard is classified as a VDP. GROSSE LAGE vineyard, the designation for the highest quality Mosel vineyards. Due to the topography, the kingdom of heaven is protected against wind and frost. In addition, the warming of the slate soil causes uniform and complete maturity. Many water veins ensure an optimal supply of moisture for the vines. Rieslings from Graacher Domprobst are typically silky and charming, in harmony with fine fruit acidity and minerality. The scent is often characterized by citrus, yellow and white peach. In addition, the clay content in the soil gives these plants their distinctive, powerful character. Giving them time to age will reward them with even more elegance and mineral finesse.
750 mlThe 2021 vintage had some challenges that in the end resulted in small yields but very high quality This wine is powerful, with notes of ripe green apple, stone fruit, slate and orange blossom. It can be enjoyed now but will age for 10+ years. Serve on its own, with cheese, spicy dishes or even with fruit-based desserts. We received a scant few cases of these wines and they won't last long.

Wittmann is a highly regarded producer whose history dates back to the 17th century. The current winery was built in 1829 but the winemaking employs state-of-the-art viticulture. The vineyards are certified biodynamic and fermentations rely on natural yeasts. The fruit is manually harvested and sorted and all the press wine is transferred to tank via gravity flow. Wittmann has been highly awarded in the German wine press, and now produces some of the most coveted wines produced in the country.

This estate dates back to 1815 and today they farm 20 hectares of vineyards. Riesling currently accounts for 85% of the vines, supplemented by Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc). Werner and Frank Schönleber have worked their way to the top of their profession. Germany's leading wine guides unanimously rate Weingut Emrich-Schönleber as a world-class winery. The Mineral is sourced from the younger vines of the Halenberg and Fruhlingsplatschen GG vinyards,and it offers an incredible value to Riesling lovers. Surprisingly saline whilst true to it's name, Mineral hews razor-blade like precision with hammer like slatey minerality buoyed by linear acidity (even in 2022). A wonderful showcase of all the terroirs of the Nahe.

The winery was founded in Nierstein in 1783 and has been family-owned ever since. Knowledge, care, the learned craft, dedication, and passion have since shaped this estate. Their top priority is to focus on the essential, in their words: "To produce high-quality wines from high-quality grapes, by consciously dealing with nature. The focus is always on the desire to preserve all the ingredients that a grape develops. This care and the experience over decades are reflected in the quality of the wines". Heinrich Seebrich Senior converted the estate completely to viticulture in the 1950s. Since 1985, the estate has been run by Heinrich Seebrich Junior, who is assisted by his son Jochen. The vineyards cover 11 hectares in some of the best Nierstein vineyards, including the highly regarded Hipping site, the source for this wine.

Today, Johannes Selbach and his wife Barbara, with the help of son Sebastian, manage their vineyards and winery with passion and respect for the estate’s long-held traditions. A substantial portion of their 24 hectares of vines are on their original rootstocks, in Zeltinger, Schlossberg, and Sonnenuhr; Wehlener Sonnenuhr; and, Graacher and Bernkasteler Graben. These vineyards of weathered Devonian slate are on a steep, contiguous slope facing south-southwest and represent some of the most prestigious sites in all of the Middle Mosel, in fact 85% of the Selbach’s vines are on steep slopes. The Selbach family’s heritage in the wine business dates to 1600: Selbach’s ancestors shipped wines down the Mosel in their own ships, the wine carried in oak barrels made by cooper Matthias Oster, the great-grandfather on the paternal side of the family. Thus, the winery developed as both a top estate producing some of the region’s best wine, and also as a négociant and brokerage firm, consolidating the production of smaller growers.
