The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon "Empyrean" includes a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine reveals a splendid perfume of smoke, vanilla, scorched earth, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by an extracted, thick, rich Cabernet with gobs of dark fruit flavors, superb balance, and a 60-second finish. It demands 8-10 years of cellaring and should easily last through 2030. The 2004 Empyrean Cabernets may well be the benchmarks for Coonawarra Cabernet. 94 Points Robert Parker
