Grenache has long been held in high regard in McLaren Vale as a versatile variety wonderfully suited to the Vale's coastal climate. A soft, elegant wine that pairs beautifully with food our Grenache is rapidly becoming a firm favourite amongst our supporters.
Planted on the Eastern facing slope below the winery, our Grenache enjoys a sunny aspect, often tempered by a cooling afternoon breeze. Fermented in the original open top fermenters and basket pressed, the Grenache spends a short time in seasoned French oak puncheons.
The result is an elegant, juicy Grenache in a bright and expressive style. Gentle tannins and a fleshy palate give a soft and generous mouth feel. This old timer of the Vale is enjoying it's time back in the spot light.

Their vineyards are situated in the sub-regions of Seppeltsfield, Marananga and Moppa located along the Barossa Valley’s western edge and are some of the oldest vines in the world. Thin, sandy loam topsoil's lie sparsely scattered over ancient deposits of bluestone, marble stone, limestone, quartz and ironstone. Rainfall is limited, often to less than 400 millimetres a year falling through winter and early spring. Subsurface clay retains valuable moisture, sustaining the vines through the long, warm and dry summers and autumns. The Le Clos des Cazaux estate has been a family property focused on viticulture for five generations since Gabriel Archimbaud, an ancestor, was one of the first to produce wines from Vacqueyras in 1947. It is now owned and operated by brothers Jean-Michel and Frédéric Vache. They farm 35 hectares, 20 in Vacqueyras and another 15 in Gigondas. They own mostly low-yielding hillside vineyards, fashioning high-quality white wines, rosés, and red blends. Their Gigondas vineyards are situated in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif range that has been in the family since the 1950s. This very special terroir benefits from the solar power of the southern slope, balanced by the cool nights at higher altitudes, mostly on clay soils. The reds are blended primarily from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. however, they include lesser-known grapes such as Aubun, Counoise, Cinsault, Muscardin and Carignan. The white wines mainly employ old-vine Clairette, complemented by Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and a little Viognier. We just received five new wines from Cazaux.
