Part of a massive 42 bottle collection of whiskies, wherein each release represents a character from Shakespeare's MacBeth.
Blair Athol at a nice robust drinking strength, matured in Bourbon Hogsheads and Recharred Wine Casks.
Producer Note: “Thick and heavy, Blair Athol is a spirit that loves to perform in richerwood profiles. For the Bloody Sergeant, a hardy soldier loyal to King Duncan, we married bourbon hogsheads, bursting with vanilla and toffee, with ex-wine casks to build in layers of fruit and tannin, all accentuating the robustness of this Highland malt."
Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 51.8% abv.
Andrew's Tasting Note:
Nose: round, earthy, and fruity, with an ominous hint of iron; Wine Gums, Swedish Berries, and dried cranberry; malty with waxy Strawberry Twizzlers and Cherry Nibbs; leather and cocoa nibs.
Palate: still round, malty, and chocolaty, with building leather and earthy spice; oily, more Wine Gums, Twizzlers and Nibbs; more cocoa nibs, rough new leather, and earthy spices: fennel, ginger, and cardamom; red velvet cake.
Finish: warming, viscous, and spicy, with more leathery tannins, and firm earthy spices; long, coating, and again with that little hint of iron... or is that just in my head.
Comment: this is an apt choice to represent the Bloody Sargaent; and a rather good young Blair Athol.
