Peat and Oloroso sherry at cask strength, from the wee Edradour distillery in Pitlochry.
An outurn of just 858 bottles from Cask No: 275. Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at a natural cask strength of 59.6% abv.

Nose: dark, earthy, and rich with sherry and tarry peat; big leather, tobacco, and chocolate notes run headlong into the tarry-ashy peat; dried dark fruits, spices, and juicy malt.
Palate: rich, dark, and earthy with some beautiful sherry tones and tarry peat; sticky toffee pudding with treacle sauce; soft licorice, dark chocolate, firm leather, and cigar tobacco; raisins, dates, figs, and but also some apricot and melon; tarry peat and wood smoke.
Finish: long, leathery, and earthy with sweet sherry notes, dark fruits, and tarry peat.
Comment: I really dig the palate on this, it is an almost perfect balance of peat and sherry; I think this one would do well with a cigar too!

The 2nd Edition in The Signature Series from Arran, which is planned to span four releases in total. Barrel Bonfire showcases and embraces the Lochranza Distillery's batches of peated spirit. The 42ppm malt was distilled in and filled into ex-Bourbon Barrels in 2012. It was transferred into ex-Koval Distillery quarter casks that previously matured Bourbon in September of 2018. The result was bottled in early 2024 at 50% ABV.

"Over the course of the secondary maturation, the intensity of the heavily peated whisky has taken on an even more complex and full-bodied character. The smaller the size of cask, the greater the surface contact area between the wood and the spirit, effectively creating an environment for ‘express’ maturation. The resulting whisky has the benefit of more intense flavours which add depth and greater nuance to the final dram. Smokier notes mingle with the well-loved charred citrus and sweet vanilla spices of Arran Single Malt, evoking a bonfire made from barrel staves."

Caledonia, in addition to be an archaic name for Scotland, is also the name of a popular folk song published by Dougie MacLean in 1979. Originally selected as a single cask by Dougie MacLean to celebrate Homecoming Scotland in 2009, the whisky has been adopted as a permanent addition to the Edraour line. The whisky has been matured at least four years in Oloroso sherry and is very chewy and fruity.

As always this sherry bomb is bottled at 46% ABV with natural colour and un-chill-filtered from a single first fill sherry butt.
A customer tip lead us to this whisky, we've seen a few batches of these very sherried single malt. Always from a single ex-Sherry Butt, bottled at 46% after 10 years, under the Signatory label. Exclusive to KWM in Calgary. The current release, Cask 284, was distilled on June 2012, and bottled on November 2022.

This whisky is produced from more heavily peated malt than the standard Benromach. It has been bottled at 46%, after maturing in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks.
The current edition of the Peat Smoke is 8 years old and made with malt peated to 57 ppm. Vintage is 2014.
