This Tomintoul 16 Year Old was featured on Day 2 of our 2021 KWM Whisky Calendar.

Tomintoul is one of the many Scottish distilleries that used to tack on the name Glenlivet to its distillery name as a sign of quality. Fittingly it is only a few miles from the fabled Glen. Its 16 year is a soft, easy-going and pleasant expression that was matured in American Oak casks.

Tomintoul Cigar Malt

Bottled at 43%, this single malt was created by blending Oloroso sherry matured and sherry finished casks of Tomintoul, to create a whisky capable of standing up to big cigars!

"Distillery Manager Robert Fleming personally selected an intricate combination of Tomintoul single malts from specially selected vintages, which he has carefully balanced with some rare peated Tomintoul single malt. Each of these individual single malts has been either matured fully or finished in hand-selected Oloroso sherry butts, sourced from the partner bodegas in Andalucia, Spain. The Tomintoul Cigar Malt is also referred to as Tomintoul Cigar Malt Parejo, because it has been created to be the perfect ‘Parejo’ (Spanish for “partner”) to the world’s finest cigars. The rich and sweet oloroso sherry notes, creamy malt profile and gentle peat smoke make this single malt the perfect accompaniment to savour alongside your favourite cigar or just to appreciate and enjoy by itself."

Tomintoul 17 Year Pedro Ximenez Sherry

It's a good time to be a Tomintoul fan (assuming such peeople exist). The distillery has never really cask much of a shadow here, but we are seeing an incredible range of releases available all of a sudden. Better still, a range that spans all ages and a whole load of unique expressions. If you're not a Tomintoul person, maybe now is the time to dive in. Truly an underappreciated whisky. 

Producer Note: "Our 17 Years Old Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish was distilled in 2005 and matured initially in American ex-bourbon oak casks before being finished in the finest Pedro Ximénez Sherry butts from Fernando de Castilla in Andalucía, Spain. These sherry butts perfectly complement Tomintoul Single Malt by imparting rich fruit flavours, which enhance the character and complexity of our whisky."
