Château La Haye is part of a long wine tradition, with the establishment of the vineyard dating back to 1557, when Sire Janot Bernard of Leyssac acquired the property and planted the first vines. It is one of the oldest castles of Saint-Estèphe. The property has remained within the same family for 370 years. In 1821, Louis Bernard was ennobled and became Baron Bernard de Saint Affrique. His coat of arms still adorns the door of the Château. In 2012, Chris Cardon purchased the property after acquainting himself with the area due to his participation in the “Marathon du Médoc”.
750 mlThis is an elegant and nicely balanced left bank Bordeaux – A classic blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and a 5% Petit Verdot. The estate was further dubbed as “one of the appellation’s hidden gems” by Vinous...seriously the hits just keep on coming. Top it all off with the amazing growing season of 2018, and this just might be the greatest dollar-for-dollar value to come out of Bordeaux in quite some time. Floral notes of violets lead into bright red fruits like raspberries, cherries, and red currants, with accents of minty freshness, cigar box, and toasted peppercorns. The weight is medium plus, with an uplifting acidity that makes this both perfect with food, and suitable for a long cellaring! Simply a wine that has it all, and one we all would be wise to load up with reckless abandon!

This is the second-label wine from Chateau Beychevelle, and as is often the case with second-label Bordeaux wines it's not that far removed from it's big sibling. It benefits from the same growing techniques, meticulous sorting, and traditional barrel ageing. It has the same elegance and finesse as its big brother, but reveals its character more quickly, offering wine-enthusiasts the full vivacity of its youth. It can be kept for up to fifteen years, depending on the vintage.
