The days of Glentauchers being an under-the-radar lil' gem are well behind us. And while it's still far from a household name, it's definitely a distillery that has started to turn a few heads. Most of the 'tauchers we see on the market comes from the warehouses of indie bottlers, but this 2007 from G&M is as close to an official bottling as it gets. Many years back, Gordon & MacPhail locked down contracts with a handful of distilleries that allowed them to release semi-official bottlings under the Distillery Label series. Despite an ever-changing spirits landscape, G&M has managed to hold on to these key relationships. A wee tip from KWM: these bottlings are always worth tracking down.

Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Sherry notes complement rich milk chocolate and a subtle hint of vanilla pod. Fresh orange peel and fragrant cinnamon combine with sweet Medjool dates.
Palate: Smooth on the palate with stewed apples accompanying nougat and roasted almonds. Treacle toffee notes come to the fore alongside a light touch of white pepper.
Finish: The finish is sweet with lingering spice, dried banana and toasted oak.

This is as far as we can tell the oldest ever bottling of Glentauchers, a distillery that most of our team here at KWM are rather fond of. Bottled at 44 years of age and 42.1%, only a dozen bottles have come to Canada, exclusively to KWM,

we’ve bottled, and the oldest we’ve ever seen too. It’s a release of just 177 bottles at 42.1% abv."

"They do things traditionally at Glentauchers. They haven't always been so suspicious of new technologies, however, as the scene on this label depicts… Glentauchers was a distillery that experimented with 'silent malt' at the beginning of the 20th century - that's malt whisky made in column stills. Revolutionary, eh? Unless, as it turned out to be the case, it's just not a 'thing'. Oops."
