"Captivated by the scents he found in our 18 Year Old’s bouquet, the floral artist likened our single malt to the wonder of a flower in bloom. He explains: “It begins with rich, rounded aromas of dried fruits and honey, then unfurls into a bouquet of geranium, tuberose and jasmine. They dance on the tongue with honeysuckle and sweet pea, figs and nuts until the blossoms fade into a sweet and lingering finish. As Azuma Makoto translated the whisky’s delicious bourbon cask softness and sweet, Oloroso sherry cask hints, he drew on the beauty of almost 100 different blooms from across the world. He coaxed each one into blossom at his Tokyo studio for his floral masterpiece Dancing Flowers of Glenmorangie, which we share in this wondrous limited edition."

Aroma: Rich, rounded and sweet with dried fruit and complex floral notes such as geranium, jasmine and narcissus.
Taste: A silky balance of honey, malt and a host of flowers including tuberose, sweet pea and honeysuckle. Rich figs and dates emerge with a hint of wood smoke in the background.
Finish: Long and enticing with the sweetness of dried fruit and subtle dryness of Oloroso nuttiness.

"To create it, we gather the silky, fruity spirit from our giraffe-high stills and let it steep in American oak casks. No less than 15 years later, we transfer a portion into Oloroso sherry casks for three more years. Once 18 years have passed, we reunite them to create its warm balance of sweet, floral lushness. Rich marmalade flavours brush against honey and fig, touches of caramelized orange and far-off campfire smoke. Have a taste, and let your imagination wander to the edge of an autumn afternoon."

The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban recently evolved from a 12 year old, into a 14 Year. Matured initially in ex-Bourbon, the wine is finished in Port casks before bottling at 46%. This whisky is replete with notes of chocolate and orange, which is derived from the finishing in port casks.
Producer Tasting Note
Aroma: Dark mint chocolate and Seville oranges mingle with sandalwood and walnut, with a spicy finish of pepper and nutmeg.
Taste: Mint chocolate and walnuts envelop the palate, laying the foundations for rose, Turkish delight and sweet Seville oranges.
Finish: Long-lasting, silky aftertaste leaving dark chocolate mints and traces of orange.
Andrew's Tasting Note - on the 12 Year
Nose: dried cherry and cranberry leap out of the glass; some musty old wood with dark chocolate, prune juice and cooked dates.
Palate: big, nutty and wood; more dark chocolate with some firm old leather and sweet Cuban tobacco; the musty old wood is still there with some licorice nibs and decadent spice.
Finish: medium-long and warming; the spicy oak holds on with a touch of chilli heat.
Comment: I forgot how interesting this whisky is; I am not generally a fan of Port matured or finished whiskies, but this one is good!

The finished whisky is a thicket of voluptuous flavour combinations. Walnut and black pepper. Mandarin orange and melted marshmallow. Dark chocolate bar and peppermint. And, like stepping into a chocolate-minty-orange unknown, the journey is as delicious as the destination."
