This is as far as we can tell the oldest ever bottling of Glentauchers, a distillery that most of our team here at KWM are rather fond of. Bottled at 44 years of age and 42.1%, only a dozen bottles have come to Canada, exclusively to KWM,
Producer Description: "Our tenth batch from the Glentauchers distillery is a 44 Year Old. It’s the oldest Glentauchers
we’ve bottled, and the oldest we’ve ever seen too. It’s a release of just 177 bottles at 42.1% abv."
About the Label (Larger Label Under Tasting Note)
"They do things traditionally at Glentauchers. They haven't always been so suspicious of new technologies, however, as the scene on this label depicts… Glentauchers was a distillery that experimented with 'silent malt' at the beginning of the 20th century - that's malt whisky made in column stills. Revolutionary, eh? Unless, as it turned out to be the case, it's just not a 'thing'. Oops."

Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: ancient, waxy, antique-y, and old-school, in a word, divine; silky with oodles of tropical fruits, soft leather, Manuka honey, and balanced oak; kiwi, mango, papaya, cantaloupe in the fruit department; you can instantly tell this is old, but it is far from over the hill.
Palate: magnificent; still old and antique-y, but also juicy with a velvety-waxy mouthfeel; fancy leather sofas, polished oak, Manuka honey and bags of tropical fruits: more mango, papaya, kiwi, canteloupe and throw in some canned pineapple too; building oak spices and sugars;
Finish: medium in length it stays lush, coating, complex and fruity; it leaves you thirsting for more.
Comment: I figured it would be good, but it is in fact great; this is everything you want a nearly half-century-old Speyside whisky to be; reminiscent of some 40+ year-old G&M bottlings from decades past; magnificent stuff!
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Opening with applesauce, this becomes more complex quite quickly. Waxy, honeyed fruits, orchard, and tropical fruits competing. There’s polished leather, dusty library books, dunnage warehouse
Palate: It’s creamy and waxy on the palate, with juicy ripe fruits; mango, and guava. The wood spice and tannins taming the expected sugar rush.
Finish: Long and lingering with nutmeg, drying.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC) is part of the Atom Group, which also owns the UK retailer Master of Malt and a number of other subsidiaries. They are a dynamic and innovative firm, who by example invented the Whisky Advent Calendar concept. Established in 2012, TBWC is famous for its playful and colourful labels, which often feature prominent whisky industry figures, tell a story, and or elude to an inside joke. The labels are typically laced with hidden elements and "Easter Eggs."
TBWC bottles whiskies from around the world, though the bulk of their offerings are of Scottish origin. Most of their offerings are small-batch releases, Blended Malts, and Blends. Their "Head of Whisky" is Canadian Sam Simmons.
We are big fans of not only their whimsical labels but also the consistently high standard of liquid they bottle.
